My new Prince signed "Purple Rain" 12" Maxi Single from 1984

I had never seen these before. It's a 12-inch (album size) "Purple Rain" single on side 1 with "God" on side 2. The album is purple! These were released in 1984, I believe.

The cover is titled "Prince and the Revolution" and below that "Purple Rain". Prince signed it in purple, "Love Prince". I think both the "Love" and "Prince" look pretty good.

I have pics below.

I'm pretty excited. It's got the full Prince autograph, plus it's signed in purple on a "Purple Rain" 12-inch titled "Prince and the Revolution" from 1984.

Well, like I admitted, I'm probably dead wrong about the rushed examples. And it appears that I am. There is much to learn about Prince autographs.

It's in one of the 3 Prince threads.

Drumroll, please...the result is in: Roger has said he does not think the one that I posted is authentic. So I called the owner and told her and asked for a refund of my $749. She was nice, and gave me a refund.

My gut still tells me this is probably authentic, but I went with Roger's opinion. When I told her Roger said no, she said, "Oh yes, I know who Roger is. He has bought from us before!" She said she would refund the money, but said they have been in the business 20 years, and she believes it is authentic. I still think it may be too, but I want to be 100% sure. It has a lot of positive characteristics. And there is no hesitation. It has nice, neat flow to it

She did say that she knows Roger sells and authenticates, which she believe is a conflict of interest. You either do one or the other, but not both...she said.

Well at least you got a refund.

Having it in a box for 20 years and then it suddenly appears after the passing of Prince, being on a Purple rain single with purple paint pen and purple vinyl ,makes you wonder and this is a dealer, not a collector.

All good points, Paul. And yes, at least I got a refund.

$749 for an autographed Prince record?

Steve, that was just a down payment. I still owed another $700 on it, for a total of $1449, which would still be cheap. But I, of course, smartly I think, defer to Roger's opinion. I would trust Roger on music more so than PSA for that matter.
You know, one thing I thought about concerning Steve's, Paul's, and actually my concern as well regarding the elongated P was this. It doesn't seem normal for Prince to have the P come down and almost touch the "rince". But I think that was because it was signed at an angle. But what if he (or whoever) signed the "rince" part horizontally? The whole thing would look more normal. Does that make sense?

The elongation of the P didn't bother me that much, James. It was the shape of the P throughout, including the loops. And the L was too upright, with too much of a curl at the top. It was not slanted enough to the right. The R was also significantly thicker than I expected.

The combo of these made it a forgery.

+1

Too many "good things", price, item and ink color among them. Not among them - loops and shapes it seems Glad you got your refund!

Eric

I am glad for sure. And thanks to everyone for giving their opinions! Eric, that $15 was money well spent!
