Just wondering if any member here uses a Proscope as part of their hobby/collection?? You've seen the Proscope used by Steve Grad on Pawn Stars to identify "live ink".

I've seen Youtube clips of John Reznikoff using the same device.

Anyone here have one, used one ?? Are they a valuable autograph tool or something you can live without ??

Just curious...

I use a ProScope HR on my PC. I like it because the magnifier is lighted, which lights up the surface much better than a handheld magnifier and you don't have to struggle to get the right angle to the light.

Here is what a preprint looks like at 50X.

Great tool if you want to look at ants.

But not if you want to fry them.

As a kid id get the magnified glass and fry ants, happy days.

so happens I have one of the worlds first formicariums  And it is a true American folk art! Don't have a scope though

I have one, with lenses going from 10x to 100x magnification. It's overkill for most collectors, but extremely valuable for others. I use it more for coins than autographs.

+1 re glasses and autographs and coins and overkill. I use a glass but infrequently.

I find a $10 10x Jeweler's Loupe and a $10 1000 lumen flashlight, is a far more cost effective set up.

My question is, what kind of inconsistencies are you professionals looking for when you use these tools? Besides live ink.

Inconsistencies? The most important reason I use it is because it makes me look like I know more than I really do. That's invaluable!
