In this country yes ebay will charge you tax because that's the law here. What country was your buyer from?

It depends on what state ur buyer is from if the get a tax bill. And this is brand new change on Ebay. U used to not have to charge tax at all

We used to have a tax free threshold below 1000 us but the law changed and we have to pay 10% under 1k on imports.

If the buyer is in DC, Nebraska or New Jersey, they purchased the item a day too late.

And ct.

In that case, they were a month too late.

I know that previously if the seller and buyer were from the same US state, then the buyer would have to pay the state sales tax.

So this is something new and different?

brand new and u have no control of or to opt out for him they charge and collect it .and he wont know that he has to pay it till he buys it.

also they just added the good till u cancel listings wich suck for sellers also

When you’re buying a high-priced item, that can really hurt as described in the OP.  OUCH!

yes I just sold an itiem for 3k his tax was 200$
