What do you think of this Marilyn Monroe signed postcard? I look forward to hearing your opinion, and why, if you know her autograph. Thanks

You hit the nail on the head, Pauline! 1952. Thanks for the exemplars.

It is a nice, big autograph, too.

Below is an examplar from the same era too. I have it wrongly labelled as being on the back of a picture of her in Bus Stop 1958 on my autograph blog, (will fix) but it was actually the outfit she wore in Niagara early 1953. It was an instamatic polaroid she signed on the back at a premiere 1952-53. It's got quite a bit in common with your auto too, but is also not typical. And voila! signed on the opposite angle, like yours is. In pencil also.

In 1952 she did 5 films, including Monkey Business. Her very next film was Niagara - and it was before Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, where she hit the jackpot for 20th Century Fox. So not long after the Atlantic City parade.

I didn't know she did 5 films in 1952.

The owner is interested in selling it and asked me for an idea of value. What do you think?

They should definitely sell all the related items together, it's well supported with the back story and unique snap shots.

That one I linked above, signed on the back of the photo and leaning the same way, only sold for about about $2k, that was an absolute bargain for someone. That was via Juliens and I guess it was so low for the same reason it could happen to this one - makes it hard to resell or hold it's value being quite untypical.

Having said that, a lot of MM items went for a very reasonable price, even her costume diamante earrings only $4k at the same Julien's Auction, whereas items like that went for $65k at the Christie's auction. So that particular Julien's Auction didn't get the usual hyper inflation on the prices.

It's all in the power of the belief of prestige isn't it?

If it were mine I would put a minimum of $3,500 on it. And a bit of media coverage - get on Fox or CNN as a light interest story and have an interview "look what I found stored away" lean? It's a nice story. Then sell the item after that.
