Guys,  selling off my sports collectibles and looking for quick sales.  It took a matter of a couple of hours to sell off DiMaggio and Mantle balls for $269 and $419 respectively.  I have five more Mantle balls and would appreciate your thoughts on pricing. All come with PSA loa’s with the first two graded.

James, this person wants $2500 for a perfect 10, rendered by Beckett. Maybe an 8. Lot of tone developing. I think mine's nicer. My opinion. For that money, you could get an autographed bat.

While it is a nice autograph, the seller should do cartwheels if he gets $1500.  It’s nice, but you got the same or better for $300, and there are enough of these nice ones around that you’d have to be pretty foolish to pay $2500 for this.  You could basically say you’re paying $500 for the ball and $2000 for the nice label and dome.

Wow, someone with more than 5 mantle balls. Making a run at me for stupidity.

500 on the graded one, not much in to graded garbage. I have a gem mint PSA 10 Willie Mays that I can't see the signature any longer. It faded right off the ball.

I like #2 for 400, #3 250 faded on a crummy ball, #4 300 and #5 300. good luck

Lol.  Thanks fudd!  While your approach can be a bit rough to someone with thin skin, I always value your thoughts.

I agree with you to a large extent on autograph grading.  It has some benefits, but it’s a bit gimmicky too.  I can see it’s value more on autographed baseballs, footballs, and basketballs, because they are more prone to fading.

However, having autographs on paper being graded is more gimmicky because paper, for various reasons, is much less prone to fading.  I mean, if an autograph is signed in sharpie on a piece of paper, chances are pretty high it’s going to be a 9 or 10.  And yet, there are people who will pay more money for such an item because it has a 10 associated with it when, in fact, they could find the same quality of autograph, non-graded, for much less.

However, that’s not to say I would never consider getting an autograph graded.  I have a Mantle signed ball that is signed on a lightly-toned baseball, but the signature is a very nice one.  It’s big and bold, a beautiful autograph, that I think would have a real chance at a 10 grade...thus probably increasing value and selling-power if I ever thought about selling.

But maybe the toning would offset the strength of the autograph.

Love you, Chuck. You're about as subtle as a hand grenade.

All sold.  The final prices

#1 $659

#2 $420 sold here

#3 $325

#4 $399

#5 $335 sold here

Here’s a pic of my Mantle.  You might click on it to get a closer view.  Another thing of note is that there is no spacing between Mickey and Mantle, which seems somewhat unusual and perhaps rare.  Maybe that’s a good thing, maybe not, or maybe it doesn’t really matter either way.

I'm buying #5 I believe. :)
