Purchased an item online - Order Cancelled - Item reappears at a much higher price

This is a question for collectors.....What would you do?

Earlier this past weekend, I spotted a signed item online that was available through Biblio. As you probably know, dealers sell autographed material through platforms like that.

This is an oldtime dealer of ephemera and printed material and the item in question was at a bargain price, IMO.  I proceeded through the platform's checkout and purchased it.  I then received the confirmation email of the purchase from Biblio and that I would receive notification when the seller processed the order and shipped it.

The next morning, I received a standardized email from Biblio that the order was cancelled.   There was no added note from the seller.  Just a notice that I would not be charged.

When I went to Biblio, I saw that the item had apparently been immediately relisted for a price that was nearly triple the price I had paid for it.   This is not a "Biblio issue".  This appears to have been the result of the seller's action.

Should I just move on?

Contact the platform and report (seller has perfect rating)?

Try to negotiate a better price (it's still a relative bargain).

Thanks for any input.

It really depends on where you live.

AFAIk, Here, in the Netherlands, if the original price was low, but reasonable, they are obligated for the initial deal, unless they prove that the price was not reasonable (like a flight for 1 euro), and even then, in some cases, the company might give you a discount code.

Thanks for the comment.

I'm in the USA .... as is the seller.

The exact same thing happened to me down to the initial bargain price. In my case it was a signed photo of William Marshall but he wrote a lot about Blacula and its sequel. I just moved on...and found a better SP from his son Tariq,

What to do? I can't say. I suppose I'd move on after being treated like that.

I am sorry this happened Eddy.

I think you're right.  Probably best to move on.  With no open communication about the situation, I wouldn't trust them to be a fair trading partner.

I don't know how Biblio works but I assume the listing was placed out there some time ago.  The seller might have even forgotten it was there.

I would assume that is the case.  Thanks.  They obviously realize it's there now because they've tripled the price!

I would contact the seller directly and ask them for an explanation - they may have one which you will find palatable. If the item remains attractively priced even by a factor of 3x then there is no point in cutting off your nose to spite your face.

If the seller is a member of any professional association you can refer to their code of ethics and challenge them on that basis. Reporting them to Biblio would be a waste of time - these seller ratings are based solely on order-fulfilment and the sellers have an allowance of so-many failures before they are actually penalized by a reduced rating so unless the seller is a serial offender at this it will not impact them in any way.

Yes, probably it would be a waste of time to try to get Biblio on my side.

Indeed it would. "Time better spent, making friends and mending nets..." Roger Waters.

You could do anything! See Steve's "J" post in the Doors thread and think the "Kuster Collection" for example.

Sounds like it may have been a mistake. If they have a good rating, I'd discuss it with the seller, see if you can put together a deal, and get a feeling if you want check out what they have every now and then.

Seems the mistake was they had this piece priced lower than they thought it should have been after it sold.

What's the reverse of "buyer's remorse"...."seller's remorse"?

That is what happened to me. With the William Marshall SP where he was thinking someone who worked on Scream, Blacula Scream.

I'm sorry, I know how frustrating this is especially after the transaction was completed.
