Typical Mantle forgery

Comes with a "Forensics Document Services" COA. LOL. $99 BIN, looking to dump it quick on someone.

Lots of people sell stuff that they don't know anything about, that doesn't make them criminals. Specially if they didn't know it was a forgery. You can't convict anyone if they had no intent. Plain and simple. I had no intentions of selling a fake. Everything pointed to a real signature and a real COA. Yeah, i was trying to make a profit, again, do you listen to yourself???? Anyone who sells on Ebay tries to make a profit. I'm not in the business of losing money. But i am also not in the business of selling fake stuff. You or anyone on this website would have known that if you would have just asked. You prosecuted me before a trial. Don't get pissed if i defend myself and my name.

Don did the right thing and removed the listing, came here and apologized, and I would bet he will do some research before he lists another autograph. This is rare, as 99% of the sellers that come here call us idiots and go on a huge rant.

I appreciated this, and made a judgement to remove his seller ID from the title/opening paragraph. Steve re-added the info, and being his site he has that right. When I post these my intention is not to destroy the reputation of the seller (unless they have multiple forgeries, and clearly know what they're doing). My main goal is to warn potential buyers, and/or get the listing removed.

The majority of the sellers we expose are 100% knowingly scammers, which is why we do what we do, and why we post their junk on here everyday. However, I do think at times there are honest sellers who list a forgery unknowingly. Yes, it is ultimately the seller's responsibility to know what they're selling, but some genuinely do make mistakes IMO. That doesn't make it right, and I certainly don't condone it, but I certainly don't want to damn someone who handled it about as good as we could ask for.

That being said, Don as you can tell we see tons of forgeries and are SICK AND TIRED of it, which is why we do what we do. After seeing forgery after forgery it is hard to give any forgery seller the "benefit of the doubt" which is why myself and others can come across as a little harsh. It is something we are passionate about. The main point is if you don't know anything about autographs, you shouldn't be selling them. I do appreciate you pulling the item and being civil.

it's such a no brainer that after looking at a horrible forgery it is easy to tell.

This article has been pined to the top of the blog posts for a couple years. I guess people just want to play dumb and just ask questions. Do the work and enjoy it. It becomes so easy to see fact from fiction it hurts....but it might take 10 minutes.....

scroll through these exemplars a few times and even a NOVICE can tell. I hope this helps

for another reference here's the same photo with a real signature. Just compare the 2 alone and any 4th grader should be able to tell at first or second glance.

Sorry, links and other info should not be deleted by members. Only moderators should do that and we rarely do, no matter the reason.

Steve, are we not allowed to edit our own discussion?

You are in most cases, but when something legit is posted and the person being discussed wants it removed or modified, that's for moderators to handle.
Don,

As a member of law enforcement, since that's what you claim to be, you more than anyone should know that you have to check out authenticity before you sell autographs.
And since you listed it as $99 buy it now, far less than what a real Mantle photo is worth, I have to assume you knew it was at least questionable.

Steve,

I am a Law Enforcement officer, and if you wish I will give you my Chiefs info in a private message. I will also give you my info. It is public record anyways.

I don't know much about autographs. I did the best research I could find. I did check the authenticity of the COA that came with the autograph and she is a legit person.

As far as the price goes, with all of the QVC items found in the storage unit, I assumed it was just another QVC item purchased. QVC items are known to have many many many items signed to make some money. Thus making it worth nothing. Thus why I put it up for so little.

I did nothing wrong and I don't appreciate my good name being slandered. I asked nicely to please remove my Ebay name from your listings. You can keep up the photos and the fact that its a fake to help others from making the same mistake I did. Name is "Mantle Forgery" or "Watch out for this item". I could honestly care less what you name it if it helps people from getting scammed.

Freedom of speech does not give you the right, personally, or legally, to slander someone's names in lies. My intent was not to sell a forged item. Once figured out it was forged, I immediately removed it. Do not put my name in the mud for your ratings my friend, that is not good business, nor good morals.

Again, I ask, very nicely, please remove my Ebay name from any listing, which there are 2, that is on your sight and that says anything about selling forgeries.

Thank you for your time in this manner. I hope we can resolve this as adults.

Don Lovejoy

No, the Jay Barker and Bobby Bowden footballs are from different storage units and different owners. The Bowden signature is really common around here. He, I guess, comes to my area a lot. I still don't know who the Bill is though. Only thing I can think of is one of his other coach's. I am not sure.

Don, contained in every Ebay listing is the following:

Seller Assumes All Responsibility For This Listing.

Don she may be a legit person, but FORENSIC DOCUMENT SERVICES was a well known forgery company that was named in Operation BullPEN. That COA is banned from E-bay and is worthless, despite whose name is on it. It might as well be Joe Blow, the real person.
