Michael Jackson drawings (Miscell inc. 'Historic portraits' and 'Disney characters')

I'm noticing a sudden influx of MJ signed Michael Jackson drawings coming on to the auction market, which seem to share the common themes of either 'portraits of historical figures'  or 'Disney characters'.

Both of these themes are of course recognised from Michaels' drawings both at a young age and later in life, but it is interesting that so many new drawings are being released on to the market at the same time.

Here are some current examples:

I've been reading this thread with great interest and I have a few comments.

First, and I'll repeat what Mr. Cyrkin wrote, let's not create a lynch mob atmosphere here.

Second, I wondering how many of you would be so bold as to put their name on a Certificate Of Authenticity?

I respect the people who put their name on their COA and are responsible for their opinion.

Well, you might say "He's getting paid for it.'

Yes he is, and that makes authenticators (not the phoney and complicit authenticators) even more responsible for their actions and I respect that.

You are paying for their extended knowledge and they are putting their reputation on the line with every COA they issue.

There a quite a few armchair "authenticators" who, for the most part, don't even use their real names and the first thing they want to do when a possible error is made is to bash the authenticator.

Now let's put this in perspective.

So if Roger issues a cert for one of your items and you get big money for it, you're happy with Roger.

But if by chance, as a human being, Roger makes a mistake, you jump all over him and bring on the lynch mob?

Seriously?

Are you aware that the only people who get sued in this hobby are the good guys.

Why?

Because the dirtbags don't like us exposing what they really are!!!

Roger doesn't need me to defend him.  Roger is very good at taking care of himself.

And my comment here isn't about defending Roger.

From what I see, Roger is a stand-up guy and I am sure he will respond accordingly.

I also do not believe that an authenticator should compensate a buyer of a an item that is found later to be questionable.

If you want an authenticator to compensate a buyer for an item that later found to be questionable, then let's flip that coin and have the buyer of that item send the authenticator a commission when the buyer sells that item and gets top dollar for it.

There are way too many armchair authenticators who speak out of both sides of their mouth.

They want the top dollar that a cert from Roger can bring and then they want to hang him when a possible error is found.

Wow.

Let's read what AML member Jeffects wrote:

Jeffects, what exactly are you implying?

I've mentioned this a thousands times, when are buyers going to take responsibility for their purchases?

You purchase an autograph that you later discover might be questionable or a forgery, and the first thing you want to do is blame someone else.

How about some of you buyers taking responsibility for your purchases.

Hi Chris,

Love your you-tubes by the way.

I don't think I was implying anything.  I think I said exactly what I think, in a rather straight forward way.

I don't have any problem getting a good faith "opinion" from someone with a pretty vast array of knowledge.  That has value.

Do you for a minute, think that these "childish poorly drawn jokes" are even close to authenticate?

People said they bought them primarily because Roger said, rather unequivocally, that he had no doubt they were authentic.  Could he possibly be so wrong?

So Frost throws out the test balloon, these COA's are fake, that didn't fly.

Then we get nothing but crickets from Epperson, Frost, and Max. Knock me over with a Fedora Feather, unsigned of course.

Who consigned these obvious fakes to R&R?  I bet you know also.

I don't expect TPA's to be perfect, I expect them to be honest.

Jeff

Well, we haven't heard from Roger yet.

Why don't you wait until Roger responds before having this lynch-mob mentality.

We have heard from Roger:

But what did Roger say about them?  Again I quote this from Roger:

"There is no doubt in my mind that the MJ drawings I did and will do more LOA's for are without question authentic."

And:

"I have absolutely no problem with drawings that I have cert'ed.  None whatsoever."

Roger authenticated the drawings or just the signatures on them?

Roger authenticated BOTH the drawings and signatures.  It clearly states it on the COA.  For a fact, I know Mike Frost/PAAS only certify signatures, on the other hand.

Didn't know he authenticates art.

Thread is getting interesting.

My problem is, how could anyone, much less an "expert", look at those terrible drawings, that supposedly came from a pretty gifted artist, and think the signature is authentic?

Even if the signature is a very good forgery.  Also, the market seemed to suddenly get flooded with them many years after MJ's death.

I looked at R&R, and as I recall, they started showing up in 2014 and they had 10 or 12 up for auction rather quickly.

Jeffects,

What you have quoted is what gets me.

No problems whatsoever?

Without question authentic?

Apparently there are problems and the authenticity has come into question...*sigh*

+1

Well said Mr Williams!

Thank you, Jan.

I simply posted how I really feel.
