Hi All,
I have finally located an obviously authentic signed photograph of Jackie Gleason. He is so very rare. Incredibly underrated. Signed vintage cuts are the norm; signed photographs, in any role or straight portrait, are just not around. The last I saw was a 1962 Ektachrome 16x20 color signed mounted photo - and I sold it. This is C. 1950. Only authentic signed photo I've seen between 1945 and 1962.

I think all adults know what "tongue-in-cheek" means.
The set I am talking about is not framed. Framing and matting can add considerably, (I was a conservation framer), so to impugn a framed set is not a good idea as one doesn't know the materials involved. But loose cuts, at that price point, are ludicrous. I am aware of very few authentic vintage sets - most of them I helped along the way. I did see one matching set of vintage pages and they actually failed to bring an appropriate price (under $350!) - probably because the Gleason was early. I think Mike S. here has a vintage set (photos!) that I added to.
We were looking at different sets then. The one that I saw on a new acquisition update is framed....and is almost $3k as well. Gleason is the only one that appears the most vintage in that particular set.
It's nicely framed...but I wouldn't think would shoot the value up that high.
What is your definition of vintage?
Eddy, you made me realize something I never thought about as it just IS.
ALL sets (with the exception of 3) that I have ever seen are 1 vintage 3 modern. The completion of a vintage set is a minor miracle to say the least.
