AMA Autograph Authentication Services.

Has anyone done business with AMA or know Jack de Varona Jr. the founder? Are they good?

They are no good. Not very long ago, they authenticated a Babe Ruth Sinclair Oil baseball as real. Those balls, as many people know, were all secretarial. There was also another Babe Ruth ball authenticated by them that was the topic of discussion here. It was a bad forgery, but they gave it an LOA.

I'm just trying to find an unbiased third party that can be counted on but am finding out that may be next to impossible. Even on this site there seems to be much disagreement between knowledgeable individuals. That scares a lot of collectors who lack confidence in who to trust. Everyone says trust me but not that other guy. We need  an autograph supreme court.

What more "collectors" need to do is study the autographs they want to own.

That's true but more people have less time on their hands. That's a fact. And even when you take the time to research it gets even more confusing. The degree of disagreement is overwhelming at times. And as the dollars get bigger on authentic pieces the more the importance on the investment aspect of the hobby.

If you're looking at collecting autographs as an investment, and you have no knowledge of autographs, then you might as well stop right now.

Based on what you wrote, it reads like you're looking to buy cheap and sell high. 

One of main reasons why I don't opine as frequently as I used to, is because I see a lot of small-time dealers looking for our knowledge, so that they can purchase an item on the low and sell high.

The question was about a particular third party authentication service. How in the world would asking a question on site sight help a person buy low or sell high? The marketplace determines that.

Joe, even though they're not perfect, I think your best bet would be to stick with either PSA/DNA or JSA. Even though PSA makes a few mistakes here and there, most of the time, I think, they get it right. And an LOA from them carries a lot of weight in the hobby and with major auction houses. I do my own research as well. But if an item has an LOA from PSA/DNA, AND I think it's good as well, I will buy the item.
