Frustrated Fan Says 'Enough'

I received the following email with link from a frustrated fan:

If you are tired of the celebs that think they are gods gift to mankind, and tired of the rude way they treat fans that are simply asking for an autograph, then do what I did with such an encounter with Timothy B. Schmit and POST it. Enough is enough. Celebs need to work with fans and not encourage such encounters as what we are all currently viewing these past few days with John Cameron.
STOP THE MADNESS
Cheers,
Stephen Duncan
ok...heres my response:
i read all post from collector/fanatics crying about getting yelled at by celebs who wont sign or will only sign one with an attitude. All you "fans" seem a little dense in your thinking. just like all autograph collectors who stalk for a graph, you are in an "AUTOGRAPH COMA"!. i am also a NYC based collector for 28 years. i was also an ex-graph hound who went out in the field to harvest graphs for dealers. i left the biz side of it 12 yrs ago after finding that the forgery situation got way out of control so i got out. i am also a performer.i have had tons of encounters with celebs over the years.some good and some bad. here is the #1 thing all graphers will not get thru there heads.
#1 NO ONE OWES YOU AN AUTOGRAPH! NO ONE!
getting and autograph is like gambling...sometimes you win ...more times not. YOU CANT GET PISSED OR UPSET IF YOU GET ATTITUDE OR YELLED AT! YOU ARE IN SOMEONES FACE WITH A SHARPIE AND ITEMS TO GET SIGNED.....GET IT?
#2.... NO CELEB (NOR you or I FOR THAT MATTER) WANTS STRANGERS WALKING UP TO THEM every moment of the day AND ASKING FOR A HANDOUT (AUTOGRAPHS HAVE CLEAR AND OBVIOUS $$$ VALUE). IN THIS POST 9-11 WORLD, YOU MIGHT AS WELL BE ASKING THEM FOR CASH. celebs are paid to do signings and understand its a biz! A FAN ONLY WANTS ONE GRAPH!!....ANYTHING MORE IS AN OBSESSION OR A SELLING VENTURE! Why does anyone need to have a celeb sign things over and over?
#3 ..
because a person is famous for doing what they do does not mean they owe you or the public anything beyond the work they do.
#4
Its the right of the celeb to sign or blow you off.
ESPECIALLY IF YOUR AT THERE JOB SITE! you must see things from the celeb side of all this. Remember,if you are standing in the street with items and sharpies then your nothing but a creepy obsessed stranger to the celeb. not a fan. we live in a danger filled world now. just ask yoko ono. There are places for asking for a graph that are ok like public events, shows, backstage doors, premiers, partys and such. It still does not mean anyone owes you a graph. stalking people while they are at dinner , arriving at airports, working on their job sites or on family outings amounts to nothing but stalking and invasion of privacy. Most autograph hounds are obsessed people to begin with and loose perspective once they get fixated on "GETTING THAT GRAPH". obsession is the fuel that drives us to collect or hoard graphs or whatever you need to collect."FAN" is short for "FANATIC". Anyone who is chasing a celeb with items and sharpie in hand from location to location is an out of control fanatic/stalker. Me included. i have since changed my collecting habits . its gotta be very scary and very annoying to be hit on all the time by strangers. A persons fame or notariety does not mean they owe us autographs! clearly the obsessed fanatic Mr. Duncan's TBS encounter is sad because even though he invaded the grumpy TBS's workspace by talking his way in backstage to some club stagehand, he feels that now he was invited ! that is madness and scary too! understand this: backstage is the work place and jobsite of the performer. backstage is private, the only person that can invite you there is the artist themselves or his managment staff. mr duncan was not invited backstage by anyone of importance, made no arrangments to see Mr. TBS and was trespassing and unauthorized to be in that place. he talked his way in. So of course mr duncan got blasted even before he said a word. he was in a place he did not belong. the performers space. im sure mr duncan will just never get this at all. three items in hand no less! is this guy clueless? no....he is in an autograph hound coma! he cant see anything beyond his need to get his crap signed. a fan would have drove that far in the rain to pay for a ticket and see & support the artist performance. Timothy B. Schmit. the poor guy TOLD HIM "ONLY ONE GRAPH"... but one graph was not good enough for this greedy and deaf collector. he needed 2 more! take take take! if mr duncan was such a fan, maybe you bring your favorite singer a gift? some performers are at there worst from sound check right up until they walk on stage. this is the time they must transform from the regular person they are to the superstar the real fans are paying to see that night. its all very "in the head" and it is always best to stay away and give them space at that time.. Mr.schmit was at his job and was working on his job site. dont you get it? Of course not. you invaded his job site, his work space, and you have no idea if he was in a bad mood at that moment because something wasnt right on his gig. to have someone who was trespassing start hitting you up for a 3 autograph handout at your job can be a pain in the butt. then, this "fanatic" spends a ton of time and energy to post a website to trash the guy even after you got the one graph.....but , oh yeah ....you didnt get 3 graphs so now mr, Schmitt is a monster!!! same with Mr. Cameron....Mayer is correct.... Fanatic stalking of celebs by TMZ cameras and fanatic graphers/dealers is at an all time high and i for one would be pretty upset by it if it was me who were being stalked from the moment i wake till the moment i sleep. Graph-Fanatics dont care nor does it even cross their celeb obsessed minds that they are invading and asking for handouts.. Times have changed. Autographs are big money biz now. its no longer the 1930's when an autograph was just for fun. Collectors think that because a person is a celeb that they owe them a graph! this is just not the case and collector/dealer/ fanatics just wont or cant accept this simple truth. We are lucky that celebs stop to sign anything for us at all. perhaps if mr duncan drove 3 hours in the rain to buy a ticket, saw the show, then went backstage after the show, gift in hand, his 3 important items would be signed with a smile! wake up and smell the sharpie!
PS... keep it coming!
