Having purchased autographs from small and large auction houses, I’ve experienced getting a refund or being able to return an item has always been a difficult task. When an auction house offers to cancel the sale or return your money on an item with 3 LOA’s when their written terms state things quite differently I have to question their motivation. What would cause such a situation to occur or be possible?
Perhaps new information has come to light which questions the validity of the 3 LOAs or perhaps a higher offer has been received by someone who missed the auction? Whatever the reason it would certainly give me pause to carefully think about the purchase.
The bottom line is if you really like the item and your belief in the LOAs supersedes the discussion points raised on this site then I’d keep the item and be happy. If there is any kind of doubt in your mind I would take the offer and get your money back and look for another set of autographs.
Good stuff here!
fab432- Your final paragraph above is a clear and concise thought following all that has been shared up to this point.
MrKite1970- Your openness to input is very admirable to me. Especially so in light of all of the twists and turns this thread has taken since it was started.
I must agree, this set has a close resemblence to the discussed signatures in this thread. Hopefully whoever posted it remembers the reason it was put on here for discussion.
I found that it was sold in 2019 through Vectis Auctions Ltd.
That one was posted here quite some time ago. They do look very similar.
There was a video posted recently that I think is now gone as my response appears missing too, but it showed in some detail how the signature of Paul McCartney could be reproduced from a sample that could be digitized, have elements adjusted or simply moved or changed with software and then written with a pen using a device. This was very troubling in this context. I can't find it - maybe it is here but I hope you saw it. I said the video was more frightening than The Exorcist.
Yes, I saw the video and your message. I agree it’s very frightening how advanced forgers are getting.
The implication to me was that with those tools I could reproduce the OP sigs, with variation.
Mr.Kite, did you see the video?
I posted a while ago about advances threatening this hobby and it was pretty much dismissed.
