ebay is automaticly charging tax now

ebay is charging tax depending on were the buyer is and theres nothing u can do about it.

I just sold a itiem for 3 k and the buyer got hit with around a 200$ tax bill.

What's the best way to destroy an economy? Tax it to death. No wonder the small businessman struggles.

 They even charge us a handling fee for collecting the fee ,I have had customs charges of £2 on low value  packages just over the threshold but the total bill has been £10 as they charge an £8 handling fee for collecting the £2 charge...brilliant

If you have a resale permit they are not allowed to charge tax

That is not technically correct, as most resale permits only apply to sales tax on sales within the same state.This is more like an interstate sales tax, actually what is known as a "use" tax, on items purchased from and imported from another state.

There has been a long-standing loophole that prohibited sales tax from being charged on interstate sales.  But, in the age of the internet economy, a number of states challenged that and the Supreme Court reversed it, so now, any state, if they so choose, can require the payment of what is actually a use tax on any items purchased by one of their residents.  Ebay is dealing with keeping track of charging, collecting and remitting it, which avoids a whole lot of potential headaches for sellers who might not be aware of their new obligations and could get hit with a painful audit as the states begin to enforce the new laws.
