I have never used and never trusted the Global Shipping Program.
Works like a charm. Just more costly for buyers.
I haven't done a long term study of it, but with the local shipping charged by the seller + the international shipping charged by ebay + the customs charges, these all total out at the rate of Global Shipping.
vs.
Priority Express Mail at roughly $50-$60 + customs charges collected at most international locations.
Chances are the Global Shipping rate is likely less expensive.
In all honesty, any seller located in the USA offering any other form of shipping for international locations .....won't for long. All it takes is one unscrupulous overseas buyer, to claim non receipt....the seller loses the item and the money...and that ends that, or the seller is a moron.
I agree that it protects the seller. And I don't trust ebay buyers who can be an issue. I shipped to many overseas directly and never had a problem either but probably just fortunate. As far as Ebay, I use Global Shipping period. And that won't change unless Ebay drops it.
yes but it is not just a small bit more costly for buyers; - its so expensive that its not worth bidding imo There are a number of items I have been looking at; - but once you add the extra charged by gsp ; - its just too expensive so I have left it. Even my friendly postman in the impounding area of my delivery office thinks that the amount charged by gsp is not reasonable; - so it hurts both parties imo.
A flat 9.5x12.5 envelope is the smallest trackable and insured package. Just for example this sized item USA to Australia is $63.50 including about $200 insurance coverage. Price will increase if more insurance is needed.
Anything that does not fit in that Flat Rate envelope will be even more expensive.
You can choose Registered Mail and many countries will track it, but insurance is limited to about $45 in value. The cost for this service is the weight (about $10 + Registered Fee another $15)
Why would a seller choose the $25 fee, if the risks fall on him of any damage or loss?
It is a matter of tracking and insurance.
If that piece of paper above has any value, then yes the costs are indeed going to be more than $45.
