I picked up this piece 25+ years ago, but honestly can’t remember where I got it or what I paid for it.  Back then there was a dealer around going by the name “Rockographs.”  Probably got it from them, but can’t remember for sure.  I seriously doubt it’s authenticity, but thought I would look for another opinion before I started using it as a coaster.  It is on  4X6 unlined index card.

What do you think?  Any and all opinions are greatly appreciated!  Thanks for your time...

I’m on the fence with this one. It has characteristics of his earlier fuller signature, but something about it doesn’t feel right.

Here is one of my earlier full signatures for comparison.

Thanks for your prompt response Richard!  I can see the similarities, but I see what you mean. Hummmmm...

I agree with Richard, a very tricky one, seems to have all the right 'pieces' but something looks off, it could be the angle between the 'Eric' and 'Clapton' they almost look like they were signed at 2 different times.  The peaks on the Eric also look a little low, but it still could be right, my guess would be early/mid 80s if it were right.  Here's another comparison

I would honestly ask Roger Epperson. No one knows that period of Clapton better than him. However if it was my opinion I would say it's fine. I'm about 60/40 on it.

I agree with Austin...Roger should look at this.
I´m 70/30 that it´s fine :-)

Be careful -- "ROCKOGRAPHS" was Joe Long's company name.  He was a very good forger who mixed in some real stuff along with the fakes.

The two words look like they are signed with different pens, let alone at a different time.

This has "that look" for lack of a better term. I don't like this feeling.

Yea, unfortunately I found out about Joe a little too late!  That’s why I have always had my doubts as to the authenticity of this Clapton piece.  I had also feel pray to a set of Beatles autographs that ROCKOGRAPHS robbed me for.  I still keep that set around for the fun of it...  This would have been in the late 80’s and it sure looked good at the time.  I just collected a few autographs at that time and mostly collected records.  I did not know anything about authentication services at that time.  Guess some lessons you have to learn the hard way...

Thanks for all your knowledge guys.  It is greatly appreciated!  I see this autograph from a whole new angle and learned about some different things to look for in signatures :-)>

Hope this helps - this was a collected in person by me from 1988 - its VERY similar to yours Bart so my first thought was genuine BUT if its from a dodgy (good forger) seller, then obviously I would be careful...

Sorry - you cant be careful because you already own it...on second viewing it looks stronger. If you have snipping tool, cut my example and compare closely with yours - there are some very similar characteristics.
