On Tuesday July 17, PBS will be airing "History Detectives" in it's 10th season.  On this episode yours truely will be looking at some Beatles autographs (and others) in what looks like a very interesting show.  Along with this they will do a spot on Bob Dylan and Frank Zappa.  Should be a very fun watch!

Had read about the Dylan Guitar having ownership debate as well as the Dylan camp claiming they still had that specific guitar however the evidence uncovered certainly creates an argument for the "current keeper".

and Roger, Opines on the associated four of being Cohen, Hope's etc... signature as genuine but then busts the balloon on Lennon & Ringo signatures as being non-authentic.  Sounds like the MaitreD was less than honest and one has to wonder how many other road manager sigs are floating around.   Good Show Roger.

or "charles" signed ones.

Thanks for the kind words.  I was very pleased with the production of the show and I do mean the whole show.  One thing you can say for these "Detectives" is they really do their homework.  I am totally convinced that the Dylan guitar is the one.  I think they were extremely low though on the value....I would have to say EASILY a million $+ for it on todays market.

First time I ever watched that show.  It was on during the middle of the Yankees game, but I had to watch it.  Great show.

You got lots of air time, Roger.  Very cool.

I was fascinated by the Dylan lyrics.

would have said 1.5 million

I was also surprised by the low estimate. It will be interesting to see how this plays out, and who actually owns the guitar. I read on Jeff's blog that Dylan's lawyer claims that Dylan is already in possession of the Newport guitar.

Unless he has since acquired the PBS one from Dawn Peterson who indicated it's in a safe place far from home.

I read it as they (dylan's lawyer)  "always" had the newport stratocaster but now the wording has changed to several items being "stolen"!  I find that is what lawyers do just in case.  As such if Vic Quinto's is the real deal and most likely is as Dylan's Management has yet to produce for evaluation the one they claim is the Newport item they have in essence said, "vic quinto stole these items".   Having said that, "statute of limitations" may apply along with rules of abandonment.

Dylan’s lawyer, Orin Snyder, issued the following statement (july 12, 2012ish):  “Bob has possession of the electric guitar he played at The Newport Folk Festival in 1965. He did own several other Stratocaster guitars that were stolen from him around that time, as were some handwritten lyrics.  In addition, Bob recalls driving to the Newport Folk Festival, along with two of his friends, not flying.” (This last part is irrelevant, as Dylan was pictured a month later at Forest Hills, NY playing an identical Stratocaster.)

I saw the show and I agree the production values and the story lines are great. Fantastic job Roger! Jeff Gold was compelling as well.

Jeff Gold who authenticated the lyrics is very good!  He and I have been friends for many years.  What was funny is I didn't know he was on the show and he didn't know I was.  It's just not something that comes up in normal conversation I guess.

Roger...Good show last night on History Detectives. Nice to see a show on rock'n'roll memorabilia. There are some dissenting voices on the H.D. website. Most of the comments from the people seem to think that The Beatles signatures are the real deal...oh well...anyway...nice job last night.

Well; those signatures of the Beatles were not authentic.

"Charles" was the maître d' at the Deauville Hotel according to the show.. It was nice of him to sent the kids those autographs. At least 4 of the autographs he sent were authentic!! Too bad the Lennon and Ringo were not authentic. Great show Roger!! I thought you would have your cowboy hat on!!! :)
