A genuine (would be) beautiful set of signatures....COVERED BY TAPE. "For protection". Looks like the tape has been on since 76 when it was signed. You just know theres no pretty way to remove it. Have you ever seen anything so.....nasty?
ANATO came in 2 covers: paper (cardstock paper texture) and glossy. Idk which would be worse to remove 40+ year old tape from.

you can also use a hair drying on very hot the tape should just pell off .
but better to have a professional do it
I spoke to my restorore this was his response. he does the majority of peoples paper rock n roll and movies collection for restoration .
I would have to say that the solvent required to take the tape off would almost certainly compromise the pen by making it bleed. Also, the tape looks pretty old, more than likely it would physically lighten the signatures, maybe take tiny pieces of paper. Probably a pass for me...
Chris
Wow so that restoration guy wouldn't try it. Yikes.
Thanks John. Jaime Mendez said he could do it but i was concerned that he didnt quite get the texture of the album cover. I think your guy is probably right about exercising caution on this one.
my inexperienced opinion is to leave it "as is"
IF it gets ruined there is no turning back
I wouldn't trust anyone to touch rare ink unless they can offer a guarantee to pay for it if screwed up
just consider it signed and sealed hehe ;)
Agreed here. But my eye does still twitch every time I look at that damn tape lol
Un-du Adhesive Remover works well to remove tape. I've read that it won't cause ink to bleed, but it would be a bit scary trying it on this LP.
Yeah the thing that worries me is the cover texture. If it's the cardstock paper cover and not the glossy...that's a bit of a gamble imo
Buying this particular piece is a gamble. Especially at that price. Maybe the new owner is ready to go double or nothing.
Personally, unless I had the cash to lose, I would keep it as it is. But, it's a risky business. Not for the faint of heart.
I imagine we have all seen old tape of this sort just fall off w/o much of any mark - but it "never" seems to happen at the right time...
I'm rooting it all works out for this buyer. Sometimes bold moves pay off. Would like to eventually find out how this works out.
