Years ago I bought a box of books from a storage auction and put them up in my attic. Cleaning out the attic yesterday, I was taking a look at them. I have a paperback copy of Catcher in the Rye with an inscription on the inside. I've looked all over at JD Salinger autographs and this one does not look real - but I need help!

The inscription says:
To: Harry ?

The best damn writer & drinkin buddy a guy ever had!

J.D. Salinger

June 12th 1962

I've included a picture so if anyone can help, I sure would appreciate it!

I really hope im wrong but IMO I don't think this is real :(  As it is signed to Harry a buddy - I would imagine that the book would just be signed Jerry as that's how he would write to a friend. plus the writing and signature look off to me the "D." looks how his "s" should be the "S" looks wrong imo and then ther "ER" looks like the  "E" had been redone.. I can dig up some authentic examples If you would like I have a few of his signed checks and posted an early 1950's handwritten letter here before on another post to compare the handwritting also the link below has some authentic salinger signatures to give you an idea. http://www.universityarchives.com/Find-an-Item/Results-List.aspx
