Hopefully they will run out of buying money at some point and let a real collector have a decent chance of winning something at a realistic price
tracks uk also have a cosy relationship with RR they buy up stuff in the Uk and stick it on RR 2 or 3 times until it eventually sells for the right price ..that zeppelin john bonham publicity photo being one of them it was on RR twice after being bought by tracks in the Uk for around £700 , it appeared to have sold for around $1300 or so first time at RR and then went back on and eventually sold for a higher price that suited tracks and RR so there has to be in house bidding going on at a lot of these so called high end auctions
And the mark up prices Tracks put on their stuff for sale is awful
it took me a while to realize that this went on , but how many collectors, of which I am a only a small purchaser, realizes that this cozy link exists?
I don't mind when auction houses have reserves (as sometimes sellers don't want to lose money on an item). But when an item doesn't meet that reserve, they should say that. (Instead of making us believe that the item sold and then keep relisting it).
It's worse than that when auction houses shill bid their own items, and drive up a bidder who is unknowingly bidding against the house. It's just a question of whether they will go as high as the house wants, otherwise the house wins. They lose nothing and try again later with the same item.
