Number of Autograph Live discussion categories

I'm sure this topic has been raised before but do members think we need so many discussion categories? At the moment there are 27 and many rarely get used.

I can see the sense of having more than one category ("wood for the trees" etc.) but the problems I see with having so many is:

1. People may be unsure where to post (e.g. Beatles' items are often posted in the more general authenticity category or even the town square or music category).

2. People may miss posts that would interest them (and therefore not be able to provide valuable feedback) because things are posted in a category that they don't look at regularly.

I would suggest

1. A "cull" of categories that have had less than 5 posts a month over the last 6 months.

2. Removal of the general categories "music" and "entertainment".

Thoughts?

I do think that sometimes you are more likely to get a response when you post an authenticity query in the “Is this Autograph Real?” forum rather than a specific forum for a particular celebrity. After awhile I may then move the discussion to a specific forum.

I just point this out, for what it’s worth, because I think the “Town Square” and “Is this Autograph Real?” forums are the most viewed.

I agree James.

The only three forums I look at are the two you mention and the Beatles one. I used to look at the music one but all that seemed to come up regularly was *future gigs" and "musicians who sell in shop".

I check more or less daily and even the most used forum only usually has one to two pages of new threads per day. It doesn't take long to scroll past all the things that are of no interest. I am often tempted to write "who cares?" when someone asks whether an obscure or US-specific celebrity's autograph is real but obviously I am too much of a gentleman to actually do that.
