Hi folks,

My dad was recently (finally!) sorting through his 40 year old record collection and he handed me a Lynyrd Skynyrd "Second Helping" LP record, the cover has been autographed by:

Ronnie Van Zant

Gary Rossington

Allen Collins

Ed King

Billy Powell

Leon Wilkeson

Bob Burns (has signed twice)

The record itself states it is a "Factory Sample - Not For Sale"

The band autographed this record in 1974 while staying at the Queensway Hotel, London.

My grandfather (my dad's dad) was working there as a porter at the time. It was signed for him and he then gave it to my dad. It's been sitting in a giant record collection ever since. It's in excellent condition and has never been played.

Just wondering what it's worth, if anybody knows?

(Pictures can be uploaded soon if they're needed)

Thanks!

You should upload some pics. If its deemed authentic, someone has better chance at estimating its value. Love me some Skynyrd :)

Thanks, I know these are authentic as my grandfather can verify these were signed in person for him.

Sorry about the photo quality. They are crystal clear in real life :)

The answer to what something is worth is always the same answer -- what someone is willing to pay.

Right. I meant more as in, if they were even proven to be real first ;) as that would deem them worthless if they weren't real. Hope that makes sense.

That's what I always say. And that's partly why I don't agree when most people say all authentic autographs should be priced sooo sky high. If nobody's going to pay it, it's obviously not worth it.

But that's another discussion :)

I never said to price it sky high. But it's always a gamble. There is no set in stone price for any of these.

Oh no, I know that :)

I just mean when someone says 'X' amount is too low for someone like Michael Jackson. But if 'X' amount is what people are willing to pay, then pricing it at 'XXXX' is stupid because the buyer won't pay it and the seller won't sell it!

are u looking to sell it? im interested feel free to pm me

Very cool and authentic, too bad it's missing Ronnie as that would really raise the value but this is worth at $1000 as it is
Oops I didn't see Ronnie on the front, up that to $3500 at least

Thanks Roger, that's great to hear, especially from you!

I think my dad is looking to sell but he's now using your value estimate as a guide and he won't go much lower than that! Trying to find a collector who will pay that much will take some research...

But he's thrilled, so thank you :)

Tell your dad he may have found one, already. My son had a look at it last night and got pretty excited. He just graduated and passed all his LSATS, so he's finally offically a lawyer. Meaning his old man is looking for the perfect grad gift to give him. How would I go about getting in contact with your dad?

You can contact my dad personally at sidneyjk@tiscali.co.uk

I will say that I've just found a scratch on the record itself. I wasn't aware it was there until yesterday. I think its just a surface scratch and I don't know what it's like to play as it's never been played. It could have been there at the time of signing.

I don't know if this affects the value but I wouldn't have thought so as the autographs are on the front/back cover and this is in mint condition. But I'm not an expert so I can't say for sure....
