Over $10,000.00 worth of Jackie Gleason stickered stuff available on EBAY. Would you pay $299.00 for this?:http://www.google.com/images?q=jackie+gleason+psa/dna&oe=utf-8&...

If people want to defend PSA/DNA then have at it...

every now and then it's good to test and see how TPAs have evolved in authenticating.  There is no doubt in my mind that they are aware of these "secretarials" via a number of routes including EBAY.  So my rabble rousing semi-retired (btw, what does semi mean?) Vanderhoven decided, evidently, to find out.  I have since sent this also along to Orlando with a "ya gotta be kidding".   Think we'll get a response?    Talk about looking absolutely foolish.

PSA/DNA authenticating secretarial Gleason's as recently as March 21st, 2012 (meaning basically they never stopped and perhaps won't period if they haven't yet).

What was that about evolution, DB?

Wow!  Good work Brick!  They made the poor gus pay for a "Full Letter" too!

Worse yet, someone paid a whopping $80.00 and thinks they have an authentic one.  I don't understand why PSA is not only certing these and now with an LOA!  There are only 2 possibilities; 1. they don't believe it's a secretarial signed or 2. they are not aware (but that would be a weak argument).  Either way, they ought to be ontop of these and they are not.    EBAY has removed them in the past so all may not yet be lost but it is pitiful and it reminds me of an old "auditing slogan" - and who is checking the checkers?

Even with all the bickering that erupts on blogs & threads - there is just a ton of great information that comes out even if you have to go thru it like a morning walk thru the desert.

e.g. why can't valuable information be published in places like UACC online or pen & quill that synthesizes out the noise.  If we did would it be reasonable to believe this ShangraLa UACC RD310 secretarial Gleason imo might not be up for sale.  Even with the guaranteed for life - why guarantee a non authentic item?

Not everyone is willing to spend time page after page on blogs,  I would find it easier while trying to eliminate "there is information on this, where?" and perhaps this question that was recently asked of me can be at least answered somewhat (presuming the dealer reads the published media); While the Heston secretarial argument is very well known to you, it may not be to other dealers.  Has it ever been published anywhere but in online forums?  Maybe it has, but I haven't seen it.  As I'm sure you know, most dealers don't read forums

shangrala sale item LS -vs- secretarial RS

I am writing the Heston article for the Pen and Quill. Hopefully in the next issue.

You could write a Gleason article and submit it for consideration. :-)

I will look forward to reading it... and then it will be "it was, must have missed that issue".  Do a good job so all one needs to do ir replace Heston with Gleason and substitute the samples!  Some might call that plagiarism but since it includes the works of many I think of it more like "research"

The two above are signed by Sydell Spear (Sammy's sister) in the early '70's. "My best wishes" with a dash and the break between the "e" and "a" are some of the typical traits of Spear's hand. I've not seen Jackie use a dash anywhere IIRC.

The only authentic Gleason in this thread is the chalk sig from What's My Line? :(

I'll add one - from 1/53 and an original candid from Gleason's own collection:

thats nice!!

Thanks Steve! Here are two more photographs for you I am happy to share - same vintage contact sheets from 1953. I have 3 - 4 sheets with maybe 40 images. Enjoy!

Where there is Ralph there is always his pal o'mine Norton:
