Hi,

I recently bought this on-line for a not insignificant sum of money, on the recommendation of a Bond Collector, although having now recieved it, I have doubts about its authenticity.

Does anyone have a view?

Thanks

I agree with you. Can you get a refund?

Forgery....

Here's my Connery PSA/DNA certified signed photo for comparison. It includes a "Best Wishes" inscription.

Thanks Peter, Jamil...

The two autographs you pointed out have a lot of the same characteristics. Steve's at top doesn't seem to. I'd definitely try to get a refund, Steve.

Thanks- I am inclined to agree, and I have been promised a full refund.

I did look at the one posted on ebay in the book, as I would guess that must be genuine, and there were too many differences to the one I have, particularly the "t" in the word Best.  It actually looks like it might have been copied from that book signature:

However, I have also found this signature, where the "T" is more like the one on my photo.

I guess the only way you can be sure is to get the picture signed yourself - although I have heard with Connery, thats not too easy!

That's a good dealer, not fussing about a refund. I'm much more comfortable with the signed book with Best Wishes above the signature. It looks very much like Peter's photo. I also think a blunt Sharpie signature would be hard to sell for good money later.

Inscription leads me to think it could be legit.....less worth perhaps but I feel a lot more secure as to legitness.

So, is the view now that it could be genuine?  Its the picture I have been after, so would hate to give it up if it is genuine after all.  The dealer has said he will make a full refund when I send it back.

This is what the person I bought it from said:

Hi there, it was bought at the memorabilia show at the NEC, everything looked okay to us. Am concerned though and would request info of who has questioned it and what they said please. Would add that you were bidding against some keen 007 collectors who must have a different view! Additionally, it's been listed on the most visible arena that exists and for a good length of time.......anything which isn't right gets reported & pulled by the mad keen Bond watchers!

This is the feedback I had from "Rare & Signed", which the dealer I bought it from says is invalid, as Rare and Signed are banned from ebay, apparantly.

Firstly, thank you very much for your email and interest in our authentication programme.

I am afraid to report, we do not believe this item is genuine and could not therefore proceed with certification.

The notations and strokes are incorrect for the signature.

Please note, this is our professional opinion and based upon our own investigation and analysis of the item. It does not mean this item is not genuine, simply that we believe it is not correct. Our opinion is based upon both extensive knowledge within the sector and also on several like for like comparisons of correct signatures and items.

Apologies we could not help on this occasion, though we would be more than happy to take a look at anything else for you in the future,

Best wishes, Jason

"Talking to me , talkin to me ?"

If you are then I  was referring to my own Connery ;)

Rare and Signed is to be avoided. I've seen them render opinions of genuine on obvious forgeries. Their site is full of questionable material, besides being on eBay's banned list.

Regarding your Connery, you asked for opinions. It's up to you to decide what to do. I don't care for it, but there are others who obviously do. Keep in mind that their confidence is probably also based on their feelings about the dealer. Many depend strongly on the dealer's reputation and expertise, which is important if it's well-earned.

Thanks Steve,

I think its great that I have had so many opinions from this site, and really do appreciate all the imput.  As it was a fair bit of money, I am going to send this one back to the dealer - but I have learnt some lesons from this whole experience.

I did actually recently get Honor Blackman to sign a Goldfinger record sleeve, and its really only in those instances that you can be sure what you have, and I was delighted with that.  However, to get this particular picture (of Bond with his car) with a genuine signature, I think is going to proove to be impossible!

Thanks for all your help,

Steve
