I have my suspicions about this because of the thickness of the nib. Also, feel sure I may have seen a very similar example somewhere although not with this inscription.

I would avoid that straight away for the poor contrast and placement - would not get so far as to look at the signature. She is not even scarce.

"The thickness of the nib."

It looks to me like it was signed in felt-tip (Sharpie, for example).

In any case, fountain pen nibs came in all sizes (thicknesses).

That is not fountain, it is Sharpie or the like.

Sorry, I meant "nib" as in the tip of any pen, including felt-tip. I just wonder why she would use such a blunt instrument unless it was given by the signee,

I got a photo signed TTM from her when a brief window opened late in her life.  The writing was just as thick as this one, if not more so.

The one you posted looks very reasonable for a "fine point" Sharpie. I think the issue is that she wrote the same size whether she was using a thicker pen or not.

Findbooks, I am confident this signature is authentic. As Eric says her authentic autograph is not rare, she was a great TTM signer for a number of years until right around 1998 or 1999.

I got her TTM multiple times, the last time being July 1998 and it took her about 5 months to respond unlike my previous requests where she responded fairly quickly. Her responses to me always included a first and last name personalization except the time I requested the one below for my wife's birthday.

Thanks Meggs!

That's a great signed photo.

Little Shirley sure was an adorable and supremely talented little moppet. And I'm indebted to her for making my wife happy...and happy with me!

The OP inscription looks fine to me.  I realize it might be a repro, but I  also very much like the strong blue ink against the sepia tone image!

I checked out the postcard before the signature a fair while ago and I was reasonably assured but now having looked again I am none the wiser - https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2332490.m5...

As Eric says, not a scarce item and it was an also-ran in a lot I procured at auction a while ago, no investment concerns!
