I also thought Springsteen value would decline after he signed 40 billion copies of his last book. Those still go north of $350 consistently.
While $500 is expensive for the casual fan, its essentially $250 per signature. IMO, thats a steal.
Bruce signed at least 10,000 of his autobiograpy and that retailed for about 30 bucks. Now reselling in the $300-$400 range. Maybe we'll never know the exact number.
I'm curious what each Barnes got for numbers on this... or if every store got them. I didn't check my local store but I might since I don't think I'll get my Amazon order (and it's cheaper since I'm a member). But if every big retailer got a similar amount to Barnes (at 5 each that would be roughly 3000 just for them) I would think it would have to be in the 10,000 range between Barnes, Amazon, BAM, and all the smaller book stores... obviously no way to know for sure unless maybe the publisher can say. I'd be interested to know.
Very true. I think for the price, at $250 per signature it's a great buy, or 10% cheaper from Barnes, even better. The one thing I asked myself with this, was being a somewhat odd couple of signatures, does that bring that value down on each signature, or bring it up being two big names, or neutral? Having Obama with Bruce would turn off half the fan base... but then there's people who are big fans of both. Just something I kind of pondered to myself.
It is a good question. I think there will always be a historical interest in US Presidents, regardless of personal opinions.
Just this year, Trump, Obama, and Clinton all signed books. I know W can still be had at Premiere. Thats a young person’s entire lifetime of Presidents!
That is true... and pretty cool they're accessible like that. Personally regardless of politics I'd take any presidential autograph... not sure if most collectors would feel that way, but the historical value trumps politics in my opinion. (Pun intended)
I personally think the oddity works in favor of it retaining value.
The part of the fanbase that is turned off would probably prefer the signed Springsteen book or A Promised Land anyway.
Looking at the signers individually, Obama's price will go down as he signs more. A Promised Land part 2 still has to come out and they'll probably have another signed Deluxe version. Bruce will likely remain a constant value, he published a memoir a couple of years ago and I don't see him signing a bunch of CDs for the charts (though I would have said that about Elton a year ago).
But this book is and probably will be the only book signed by both these people. It's a high-quality slipcased edition that's easily a $150 value on its own. And it's not like the dual-signed Clinton books where it's Bill or Hillary plus a fiction writer. These are both icons and the book is about them. If you like music, US Presidents / history this could be an appealing item. It's expensive; undoubtledly there are people not able to buy it now who are willing to pursue it later.
How much it will gain if you're in it to flip is another question. I think these have a fairly large edition size. 10k doesn't seem an unreasonable estimate. I expect these to stay at max $100-$200 above retail for the foreseeable future.
That makes sense, and kind of like you said, if someone doesn't like one or the other signer they can always get the single signed previous books. So I could definitely see the oddity working in its favor... and I guess Bruce working with the Democrats probably means a lot of crossover fans between him and Obama. I think it's pretty cool...
As of now it's going for around $700 on ebay so I would assume that would go up a bit, if theres still demand after some of the flood dries up. Not a lot of profit after ebay fees at $700 but I guess $90 profit for a few minutes work is probably decent. A lot of money to tie up though, or risk on returns.
Live near Knoxville, Tennessee? Two copies remain as of this afternoon at Barnes & Noble. They’re behind the counter. A B&N membership gives 10% off in store purchases.
edited to add: I cancelled my Amazon order today after picking up this book locally. I hope that opens a new opportunity for someone on this message board to have their order from Amazon fulfilled.

THANK YOU! After the fiasco I went through today with BN, this made my day! (If it doesn't get canceled.)
