Thoughts on Harmon Killebrew 8X10

This Harmon Killebrew looks good to me, at least compared to one I had signed in person around 2003, but I'd like some other thoughts on it.

Great guy. I was at a baseball card shop where he was signing. The limit was 2 pieces but when someone offered him a third item to sign, he did it without hesitation.

Then someone behind him said "2 signatures only" and Harmon gave a look like "shut the hell up, I'll sign as much as I want."

He was awesome that day.

I've interviewed or met over 700 baseball players - Mr. Killebrew is in my top five nicest. And his son once gave me a reserved ticket for the Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. Great family.

The time I saw him in person was at TwinsFest around 2003. He took the time to talk with everyone and shook my hand after signing a 1965 Twins jersey for me. He wasn't very tall, but his arms and hands were huge. And that grip... oh man! No wonder he belted 573 home runs.

I remember that powerful batting stance of his.

I remember watching either the 1969 or 1970 All-Star game when he stretched for a throw at first base and tore his groin muscle I believe.

It was a terrible sight.

I've read speculation in the past that the MLB logo is based on his stance. Not sure if it's true, but it certainly looks like it could be.

even his name was intimidating. growing up, I always thought he was this big, bad dude who inspired fear in all pitchers. I met him in Arizona in the mid-90's and he was so much smaller than I expected, but the nicest, most genuine person you could meet.

Bob Feller was like that also. Today you can pick up a baseball for $20. He loved interacting with fans and never said no for an autograph. Which is why there are a million of them. I'd rather have players who love their fans than valuable autographs.
