Couldn't quite believe that this went for a hammer price of £10,600 today at a non-specialist UK sale.

I guess they are real as they have a Cox LOA but £14,000+ for these seems steep to say the least, especially as three are just first names and they look pretty faded. Apparently they were quite pally with Mr. Drew while on tour but all the same....

Ouch! That’s a lot of money for 3 first names from 65.  There must have been some very keen bidders.

It’s interesting that four years later and across the ocean, the Beatles used the same color ink as Marilyn Monroe did in her 1961 TLS. Similar paper, too.

Is that the photography or actual?

This was signed 3 weeks after the Shea Stadium concert and just days after The Hollywood Bowl and was the last tour before all the controversial Lennon-Jesus remarks! To me this was an auction of Beatlemania that might have shown some Beatlemania - but I can understand wanting signatures of that date and paying heavily for them. How many sets from these weeks on stationary dated so referencing the tour signed by those 4 boys?

This is another one signed on the same day for a local Philadelphia broadcaster Larry Kane who traveled with them on their 64 tour,

Neat - What effect do you think the date and format has on signed letters from this period?

Good question Eric, I personally like full name signatures, but these are so rare and the tour content is so cool and I have only seen 2 , pugs was the 2nd

i could see paying a premium for these letters

"Qualities" :)

That nicer example apparently went unsold in a 2014 Tracks UK auction with an estimate of £5,000 - £7,000.

To answer Steve's question, I don't think the ink looks similar just because of the photography. In fact, there were a whole heap of similar looking letters and agreements. Monroe (see "town square" post of today), Presley, Marc Bolan and Einstein were a few of the others that sold for decent money. Not sure if this will work, or for how long, but here is a link to the auction. The letters are lots 176-199:

Maybe the consignor made a point of buying such letters and agreements. Personally, I find them rather dull appearance-wise and I would always worry about them being copies.
