What do y'all make of this Joe DiMaggio?

A starting price that low is either an extremely confident seller or a fake.

Granted, either way, given the number of "New Listing" signed Ernie Banks autographs they're selling, I can't say I'd feel good giving them my money for anything. But, of course, that's another issue.

I have no opinion, other than the one I gave.

And that statement speaks for itself; I'm not sure what's "unclear".

But, since you didn't get it, I suppose I'll clarify.

To list a Joe DiMaggio autograph with a starting price of $10 means that you'd have to be incredibly confident that it'll generate enough interest to reach market value or it's fake and you'll be happy unloading it for anything.

eBay has a tendency to "hide" listings for no reason, even to people searching the exact wording in the listing. Combine that with random glitches that can often prevent bidders or sniping software from logging in or bidding, and you have to be willing to have an opening bid that you're willing to lose the item for.

I don't know anyone who would be happy to sell an authentic Joe DiMaggio for $10. So, either it's fake or the seller is extremely confident that they'll get the bids.

Seems extremely clear to me--not sure where you got lost.

It's the same as "if it's too good to be true, it probably is".

Mike, I was being a little facetious.

Many sellers start the bidding at .99 cents (or $10.00) because they know how bidders get caught up in the frenzy of bidding.

I own numerous Joe DiMaggio autographs. I consider DiMaggio's sig as attractive as The Mick's sig.

Below is a beautiful DiMaggio I picked up for $28.00. You can find really nice DiMaggio sigs at great prices.

I didn't pick up on that--tone online, etc.

It's true about the frenzy, but, at the same time, my hobby lately has been reading the eBay seller boards, and believe me when I say it's a huuuuuuge risk. Especially with the spottiness of the search feature.

In the old days, it would have worked. But now with the so-called "new eBay", you really need to be confident.

Some think it is.

Others think it's just a bad/glitchy algorithm.

Personally, I don't know the truth or anything, but I do know that sellers are saying that they've started losing bids/sales/views because of how the search engine is displaying results.

Selling items on eBay through the auction format really can be quite risky, especially if it's an unauthenticated item that you know for certain is indeed authentic. You may know it's authentic, but buyers may be lerry of it without the PSA or JSA sticker; hence it may sell for way under market value.

Yet eBay loves to promote the auction format because that way they know the item is going to sell, and they'll get a cut. But if you use the un- risky BIN option, it may take forever to sell, which deprives eBay of their cash flow.

Looks okay to me. I suspect the low starting bid is due to the significant smear. In my opinion, it's a $30 - $40 item with that smear. Not much risk starting it at $10.
