Paul McCartney 1967 EMI Studios Abbey Road, London Autograph [Pepper Session] (UK). (Denise Werneck Collection)

Paul McCartney 1967 EMI Studios Abbey Road London Autograph (UK).

A section from a Paul McCartney Family Way album that has been autographed by Paul McCartney in black ballpoint pen. The signature was obtained outside EMI Studios, Abbey Road, London at 2 AM on 9th February 1967 by Brazilian Beatles fan Denise Werneck who travelled to England with Lizzie Bravo to meet The Beatles. The autograph comes with a detailed letter of provenance from Denise that (in part) reads

‘In the sixties I was a Beatle fan here in my native Rio de Janeiro. My best friend Lizzie Bravo – also from Rio – and I went to London in early 1967 with the sole purpose of seeing The Beatles: we were very lucky and saw them many, many times. We used to wait with our new friends outside Paul’s house and EMI Studios to see the group...The signature on the front section cut from ‘The Family Way’ album cover was obtained by myself outside EMI Studios on 9th February 1967.

The album section measures 11.5cm x 7.75cm (4.5 inches x 3 inches). Tape stains in places. The condition is very good minus.

Recording: Good Morning Good Morning on February 8th 1967.

The Beatles recorded eight takes of the rhythm track for the Sgt Pepper song ‘Good Morning Good Morning’ on this evening, in a session which began at 7pm and ended at 2.15am the following morning.

Just four of the attempts were complete. They featured drums, tambourine and rhythm guitar, and likely also had John Lennon singing a guide vocal which was later replaced.

The eighth take was the best, and became the basis for further overdubs. Following this session, further work on Good Morning Good Morning was delayed until 16 February 1967.

Take eight, along with Lennon’s vocals from the subsequent session, was released on Anthology 2 in 1996.

Thank you Eric! I forgot however to give credit to Beatles Bible. I love researching what The Beatles were working on when these autographs were signed :)
