ROBERT MORELY (1908-1992) was a staple in British films in both comedy and drama. Morely plaeyd dramatic roles such as ill-fated King Louis XVI in the movie Marie Antoinette (1938) and Oscar Wilde (1960). Morely played Katherine Hepburn's brother in The African Queen (1951). He declined a knighthood offered in 1975. This is an early 1950s autograph.

Hi Scott,

Yes, I remember him as the brother in Queen. It was an odd character and depiction, if accurate to the part/property. But I also remember his as the sort of Sydney Greenstreet character in Beat the Devil. That is a really nice album page. I love it when the collector makes such a nice presentation. Much nicer than a plain signature, and apart from the added context it just looks nice. It seems these little home made decorations worked for the better more than 1/2 the time.

This album page was signed during the run of The Little Hut at the Lyric Theatre. Morley played the part of Philip. The play moved to NYC and opened in late September, 1953.

Thank you Eric.  Yes Morely is one of my favorite character actors.  I have a couple other autographs from this same album including John Cassavetes.  Thank for the information on The Little Hut. I got this from jgautographs on eBay a few years ago.  I forget now all the different actors but there were quite a few.  I think the collector got most from going to the theater.  I have the Cassavetes under the Rosemary's Baby discussion.  Thank you again, Eric.
