UK Antiques Roadshow clip featuring JHE signatures

Started Apr 28, 2025 0 Replies

This makes quite a nice watch. It was first broadcast a few months ago but I only just spotted the clip on the AR site. For once, the valuation (GBP 5,000 - 7,000) seems about right.…Continue

"Sold for $750 + fees. That tells you all you need to know about likely authenticity  - i.e. it is most probably authentic."

"I prefer the fourth option. If the price really is $25 - $35 I can't see the first (sticker only) option can provide much comfort to anyone unless JSA are running a charity. Obviously sellers can use a sticker to persuade less informed buyers…"

a pug called eva replied to Ryan Wolfson's discussion Billie Holiday Autograph
"I may be being a bit slow here but do you have to go to another show to get the sticker? I presume they don't authenticate on the same day - in fact, they seem to have a fast track service (for an astronomical additional fee of $250) but even…"

"Maybe, but I always thought that JSA would only sticker the actual item. I'm no expert, as the saying goes."

"Would that be any good as definitive proof. Photocopies were never any use as legal evidence and photos are probably even less so these days."

"What do you mean by LOA only? Doesn't every LOA require a sticker with unique register number? Eva is sadly no longer with us. I assumed her name while she was still brightening up our every day, along with her flatmate Linda. Their successors…"

"I had a thought while out on my morning constitutional with my flatmate pugs (Lily, Elsa and Frida). If JSA do a photo only authentication how do they sticker what they've authenticated? They would need to do this to register the COA properly…"

"I just had a look at the JSA site. It's a mystery to me why the fees vary per signer. The work should. be the same whether you are authenticating Monroe ($300 - $500), Lennon ($250) or Billie ($150). I suppose they are looking at the potential…"

"OK. Thankfully, I've never had or felt the need to engage the services of an authenticator. I suppose if I ever wanted to sell a higher-priced item I might have to use one but I'd let the auction house sort all that out. Even if I had more…"

a pug called eva replied to Ryan Wolfson's discussion Billie Holiday Autograph
"Somehow I doubt the wobbly "o" would have been caused by the surface as it doesn't seem to have affected the other letters much, apart from the bottom right of the "H" (see below). From your close-up it appears that…"

"What are you referring to with this image (with 1:22 at the top)?"
Friday
a pug called eva replied to Ryan Wolfson's discussion Billie Holiday Autograph
"I was thinking the writer went down the left side of the "o" and came up on the right, as Billie seems to have done in the other exemplars. Normally she would make a small circle at the top of the "o" to get to the "I".…"
