Andy Warhol had a bunch of cardboard boxes that stored things he collected. I heard there were over 600.
They were opened the other day, and guess what they found? No, no...not a bunch of spoiled Campbell's soups. But, a lot of interesting little items.
One box had $17,000 cash. Another had a naked photo of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis that was autographed. Sure, there was some junk. One box had a piece of crusty wedding cake, another had taxi receipts and fan mail.
Apparently, Warhol was a pack-rat. When he died in 1987 (at age 58) he had a four-story townhouse packed with shopping bags, clothes, books, antiques, piles of furniture, jewelry and gems worth over $1 million bucks, and even papers that just had writing from the things he did daily.
He eventually got talked into putting boxes into a storage facility, which is what they're opening now in Pittsburgh.
The Jackie O photo wasn't the only autographed item. There was a Ramones album signed by lead singer Joey Ramone.
I'm sure if the cake is put on eBay, someone will buy it. After all, it was from Caroline Kennedy's 1986 marriage to Edwin Schlossberg.
I doubt, though, anyone will buy the orange nutbread his cousin sent him. Or the mummified human foot he had. Apparently, it belonged to an ancient Egyptian.
