I once asked how far an autograph collector would travel to achieve an autograph that they would like to add to their collection.  Our hobby creates great opportunities for us to travel.  Baseball fans are known to travel all over the country for the purpose of visiting ballparks in cities across America.  Why not autograph collectors as well?

My wife and I recently traveled to London, England.  We attended Star Wars Celebration there.  It was amazing.  Palm Sunday at St. Paul’s Cathedral.  The Tempest at Shakespeare’s Globe.  Oxford.  The Charles Dickens House.  Elton John at The O2.  Abbey Road.  And, of course, a pair of Star Wars autographs.

Star Wars Celebration was held in London, England this year.

Traveling for the purpose of collecting autographs offers us an opportunity to visit places that we otherwise would not visit.  The location of the next Star Wars Celebration has already been announced for 2025.  Japan.

I have a few on my list of wants where I would travel pretty much anywhere if it was 100% certain I'd get them.. you might get a kick out of this however.. My wife has family that lives in Russia. We spent a year there before COVID hit. Russia was considered an up an coming country before putin screwed it up.. anyways, we were pretty set on moving there (long story) I took my collection with me which was a pain. After a year, we decided to have a kid and it was not the best place to raise a family. We came back to the US and I only took half of my collection. Thinking no problem, ill be back next year.. (travel back and forth was easy at the time) we had our daughter and 2 weeks later, everything shut down from COVID. we waited patiently for 2 years for the pandemic to be over. Finally, as soon as restrictions were beginning to be lifted, Russia goes to war with Ukraine and flights to Russia are cancelled.

You ask how far would I go? I am desperately waiting for the 1st chance I get to go back to Russia for the rest of my own collection which consists of ghostbuster stuff, SNL stuff, music autographs and some back to the future signed items. All just sitting in a box near the border of Siberia, at my wife's families house waiting for me to pick them up.

Hopefully Russia 2024 election will not be rigged and Putin will be gone. Its currently my only hope of going back anytime soon

That is terrible, Jason.  Hopefully things work out for you and your family in 2024.  Best of luck.

Thanks Mike.. im more worried for the people in Ukraine. Even though my wife is Russian, it doesn't mean she stands for Putin. We've donated to charity and are for Ukraine completely. This is an autograph forum and the talk should be specifically about autographs, but reading back what I wrote, it could be taken out of context, in that all I care about is my autographs lol.  Its always in the back of my mind but my overall focus is hopes that the war ends, everyones safe, and families are reunited

I completely understood what you were saying, and I am in total agreement.  Take care, Jason.
