As I'm unemployed I've decided to sell all my Signed Photos Collection. To start it, I'm doing my first experience with RR Auctions, (www.rrauction.com), where I'm selling some items:
Item # Item
I have a lot more, - (+/- 400 Items). Please let me know if you're interested. Just to name some of them:
Jazz:
Movies:
Modern Music:
Historic:
Art:
Books
MacShade,
Since you're offering things for sale on our site, I have to ask: Are there any pieces that RRAuction didn't accept due to authenticity concerns? Or any autographs you know of authenticity concerns on?
Thanks
Great questions Steve!!!! :)
Hi Steve,
This is a tricky question but I'll promise to answer the best I can.
First of all, I didn't send them all the photos but it's true that some items were declined based on one or another of the following reasons: some of them for authenticity issue, condition of item or signature, low demand/resale value in our market, but Elizebeth Otto told me they would receive them to their review.
I was really chocked with it because a lot of them were bought in very reputable houses like Kotte Autographs, Record Meca, Andrusier, Markus brandes, Arundel, etc... that cost me several thousands of dollars...
When I asked them, this was their answer: "I understand your frustration and disappointment about differing views on authenticity and the fact that you have items in your collection that are not supported by all who review them. RRAuction has a policy of reviewing everything offered for purchase or for consignment. We even review items that are submitted to us with our own COA. There are multiple reasons for being that careful in evaluating potential auction items.
To accomplish what we do on a monthly basis, we have a process in place that addresses the review of items. As a result of our process being applied to your items, accept and decline decisions were made. Items were declined for a combination of reasons. Our “point of view” is that we cannot represent items that we do not support as authentic. Regardless of what another auction or dealer might support, we must find in favor of an item in order to support it with OUR certificate of authenticity."
As you know they work with Roger Epperson and some authenticated by him were declined, even items authenticated and sold by themselves, (RR Auctions), were declined... Confused?... Me too...
And worst: some of them, (4) were collected in person by me... So what can I say to you?... I read somewhere that the only way to know if an autograph is authentic is collecting it yourself. Now, I would say not even that way you can be sure...
You know better than me how it works... I've already got several opposite opinions from different authenticators, PAAS, JSA, etc... Even on this blog, I often follow many discussions about some items, (like a beatles SP sold by Perry Cox) that failed the verification made by some "named experts" here...
In other side I know that some reputable gallery, like Rock Star Gallery... one the galleries that chooses to have a court approved forensic expert examine every signatures to insure authenticity and 100% guarantees every hand signed collectible. All hand signed collectibles are supported with two Certificate Of Authenticity. A Rock star Gallery - COA which takes full responsibility for every signature and a court approved forensic experts COA which will be supported in a court of law. Despitem almost all their Itemsfor sale are absolutely fake... Like these:
Jim Morrison 2.600 USD - http://rockstargallery.net/framedsignedphotos/jim-morrison-signed-p...
Bob Marley 1.600 USD - http://rockstargallery.net/bob-marley-signed-photo
What I can say, after several years on this business, with whom I had a lot of fun, and where I spent more than 100,000 USD, is that if you want to have good items you need to be ready to pay them well and you need to study by yourself, to feel if the seller can be trustful, and, most important, to follow your heart.
I made my options on the past and, for sure, with some mistakes too. Now I'm offering this option to all of you...It seems fair enough to me...
Kind regards
Hi MacShade,
Thanks for such a thorough answer. It is frustrating sometimes, because the level of knowledge and experience improves over time, and autographs that in the past may have been considered genuine may not be considered so today.
Luckily, the dealers and auctions you said were some you purchased from, Kotte Autographs, Record Mecca, Andrusier, Markus Brandes, Arundel and RR, have lifetime guarantees of authenticity. Be sure to have RR look at any autographs sold by them and if they pass, or passed, on any that came from them, let them know. Talk with the other dealers you mentioned and ask them to look at any autographs they sold you rejected for authenticity concerns. You should be covered.
Likewise, anything sold by Perry Cox and Roger Epperson is fully guaranteed, but if they simply provided authentication services, the seller would provide the guarantee. But if anything was rejected by RR or others for authenticity reasons that was authenticated by either of them, let them know and get their opinions today.
Regarding Rock Star Gallery. I don't consider them reputable. In fact, I think they're one of the worst of the worst. I don't recall ever seeing a rare autograph from them that I thought was genuine. You didn't buy anything from them, did you?
Thanks again for being so honest with us. Please feel free to post any autographs you'd like opinions on, too.
How long ago did you purchase the items that were sold and subsequently declined by RR Auction?
You mentioned that some of the submitted items were rejected for reasons other than authenticity concerns. Is that the case with any of the sellers that you've listed, or were all of the of the items from those sellers rejected due to authenticity concerns?
Hi Steve,
Thanks for your advice ... fortunately, I never bought anything from Rock star Gallery!... However all their hand signed collectibles are supported with two Certificate Of Authenticity, what appears to be the most important for many buyers. I feel very sorry for them ...
Actually, I did not realize which was the real reason for some being refused. When I questioned about what verdict on each item RR Auction responded to me that they could not do it and told me in a vague way that this does not mean that the items were not authentic...
I will post here some of the items that have been declined to have your opinion.
Kind regards
Jorge
