I just saw Sarah Palin on Entertainment Tonight. Mary Hart asked her, as fans were waiting to meet her, if she ever waited in line to meet someone.
Palin seemed excited as she said she had.
And my mind went reelin'. Who could she have waited to meet? Nancy Reagan? Maybe Audrey Hepburn or Gloria Steinem. Oh, the possibilities were endless.
Nope. Nobody all that interesting. It was Ivana Trump. Palin said she was at a department store with a new fragrance.
Now....is this woman really a person that honestly thinks she's presidential material?
Anywhoooo....a friend of mine reported from Fort Wayne, Indiana. Which on a day she was doing a booksigning, told me it was like she brought the weather from Alaska.
What baffled me is, thousands were lining up and camping out, in 39-degree weather.
Some people drove from hours away.
Hard for me to make fun of them, when I've done my share of driving to meet a person. But I drove two hours to meet Lou Reed. Another time, Patti Smith. These are legends in music.
Sarah Palin?
Barnes & Noble was only going to hand out 1,000 bracelets for the people waiting, some of which had sleeping bags.
One of the other things I found interesting was...when I've waited in line for people like Tony Curtis or Ernest Borgnine, I read the book in line. Sometimes, it gives me something to ask the celeb. Nobody in line was reading the book. Sure, they had hours and hours to kill...but they were more concerned with the snacks they brought.
I laughed when I asked my friend if he personalized her book and he said, "Dude, are you crazy? I didn't stay for that. I just wanted to see a little of the spectacle."
