Steep Marilyn Monroe

Another pricey item from a non-specialist UK auction (I posted a Beatles item from the same auction in the Beatles category). This may be an interesting document but a hammer price of £8,000 (£10,000+…Continue

Unbelieveable Beatles auction result today

Started this discussion. Last reply by Adam Halloran Feb 24. 10 Replies

Couldn't quite believe that this went for a hammer price of £10,600 today at a non-specialist UK sale.I guess they are real as they have a Cox LOA but £14,000+ for these seems steep to say the least,…Continue

a pug called eva replied to Daniel's discussion Marilyn Monroe Signed Check
"I think you may be being overly cautious on this one goodcat. This is an early signature and is therefore quite different to the later rushed examples. I agree that the printed lettering to the bottom left is unusual and the slope in the…"

a pug called eva replied to Innuendo's discussion Freddie Mercury value to go up soon
"I think you have to keep any freakish-looking auction results in perspective. Sometimes two or more bidders get carried away, as I have done myself on more than one occasion. Lately I have been having a running battle on eBay with a deep pocketed…"

a pug called eva replied to Innuendo's discussion Freddie Mercury value to go up soon
"Not sure if your last comment was tongue in cheek goodcat but "seller ended the listing due to an error" generally means that the seller sold the item off eBay. As a buyer, I have been miffed to read this many times.   "

a pug called eva replied to Woody2Shoes's discussion Marilyn Monroe opinions please
"A definite no from me. Not a terrible attempt ny any means - including the inscription - but too neat and the Marilyn is certainly not typical. "

a pug called eva replied to Darryl Gundersen's discussion Opinions on Harry Houdini Signed Book
"Hi Darryl, thanks for closing the loop on this one. I thought it looked real but I only have an example that Houdini signed in block capitals in 1900 so I didn't feel qualified to offer an opinion. I wonder why Houdini would have signed or even…"

a pug called eva replied to Eric K. Longo's discussion Do You OWN Research. DON'T Trust TPG Blindly. Details & Dates DO MATTER. KNOW Your Subject.
"That is indeed incredible. So if they had a daguerreotype of a middle-aged man with Abraham Lincoln noted on the back they would state the subject to be Abe Lincoln?! My guess is that a good condition Lincoln dag could be worth $100,000 + and a dag…"

a pug called eva replied to Tommy Behnke's discussion Should I Buy at this Value?
"Very tasteful display. I'm not really a black mountboard man myself but it works well in the group setting here. Very tasteful decor/lighting as well by the way!!! Any chance of a full-frame shot - maybe as a jpg attachment?  "

a pug called eva replied to Daniele Vicari's discussion All Beatles signed with COA Caiazzo, is it definitely true?
"Even to my relatively untrained eye these look extremely strange - both in the way they are written and the appearance of the ink. Does Frank normally write "a white colored piece of paper"? Odd expression."

a pug called eva replied to Christian's discussion Ray Charles signature Fake?
"Hi again SB, yes, the similarities are remarkable, particularly if you consider that Ray couldn't see what he was writing. I'm intrigued to know if you were actually the person who paid the $10 at the garage sale or whether you bought it…"

a pug called eva replied to Christian's discussion Ray Charles signature Fake?
"Hi SB, I think my example from 1962 was even more similar to yours (see comparison below). Were you the lucky one that picked it up at the garage sale? I'm not intending to sell mine but obviously I hope you do very well at the auction. I still…"

a pug called eva replied to Joel H's discussion AC/DC Autographs On Angus's worn shirt
"Not a textiles man myself. To me the main issues in terms of value would be: 1. The fragile nature of textiles in certain environmental conditions. 2. The fading of the signatures. 3. The placement of the signatures, Can they all be seen at the same…"

a pug called eva replied to american boy's discussion IS THIS A AUTHENTIC MONROE SIGNATURE?
"To be honest I think I'd save the authentication fee  unless you need a negative response to get a refund from the auctioneer. I am 99.9% certain that this is some kind of deliberate fake.  I say fake rather than secretarial because…"
