I know she wasn’t a celebrity, but she might have become one.  She may have become an iconic music star or a world famous actress.  She might have become a celebrated author.  Perhaps she would have become a medical doctor or researcher and found a definitive cure for hiv or cancer.  Who knows...maybe she would have become the first female president of the United States!  Or maybe she would have been a really great wife and mother.  If her future was as bright as her smile, she was destined for greatness.

But neither we nor her devastated, loving family will ever know because 20-year-old Mollie Tibbetts’ life was stolen from her by a monster.  What we do know, at least by the accounts of those who knew her well, she was a caring, special young woman who will never be forgotten.

I thought I would post this because Mollie’s non-famous life was every bit as important as the lives of all the celebrities that we admire.  It’s just heartbreaking that such a young, promising life was taken from the world far too soon.  So Rest In Peace, Mollie Tibbetts.  We are thinking of you.

great perspective, Steve

Reading this discussion through, I see that several members said what I said, before I said it. I'm glad so many of us are of similar mind. Thanks

For the record, if Steve ever dies...I'm ALL FOR all of us, writing our tributes to him.

Listen folks, I know I sounded a bit snotty in my initial comment. But here's the thing. Since James keeps bringing up talking about movies and other "off topic" topics, let me clarify something. There's a difference between an "off topic" thing if it's...hey, did anyone like the last Star Wars movie? Because, it's about people we admire, it sometimes gets autograph stories in there, and even if not, that's fine. Or...if someone wants to argue whether Terrell Owens should've made the Hall of Fame, or Rush in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. Because they are "celebrity" related. Or...if a celebrity dies or is murdered. But news related events, that have nothing to do with celebrity...just shouldn't be here. Period. Whether Steve allowed it or not. Something to keep in mind is this. What if Steve decides "yes...anything goes. Post away, whatever is on your mind." Well, then if we log on, and I see a thread about the best way to grow colorful amaryllis in your garden, and another thread about what to do about a car that overheats. Another thread about why we're having such a hot summer.
When I was on a BBC station once doing a report, live in the studio, they asked me what the radio station was like that I worked with in San Diego. I told them it was "classic rock." They couldn't believe a radio station would ONLY play The Beatles, Stones, Doors, Led Zep. They said, "What if people want to hear Sinatra, or the Bee Gees?" I responded, "If you buy Sports Illustrated, you want to read about sports. You don't want to read about the latest movie, or how to build a deck on your new home. Magazines are specific."

Now, I just thru this whole debate at my wife. Let me first add...my wife LOVES to take the opposite side on my opinions (or at least it feels that way). I told her this debate and she said, "I think people that post things like that, about somebody dying...do it to get attention for themselves, and for others to say 'that's so great that you did that.' It's like people that adopt a dog at the shelter, and then tell everyone they meet, that they rescued a dog."
Now, I don't think that's why the person originally posted that. But...it's a decent point.

Look, I'm a movie critic. I'd love NOTHING MORE than to discuss movies with you guys. We can debate movies, talk about our favorites. But...I never talk movies on here, because...well, it's an autograph website!!!!!

In regards to just scrolling by threads you aren't interested in, I already do that half the time. Every time somebody says "Is this John Lennon real?" or whatever. Unless something about the intro sounds appealing, or I want to see and chime in.
Now...if you guys like movie related things, and posts about people that died, read my latest blog: https://live.autographmagazine.com/profiles/blogs/neil-simon-r-i-p?...
Let me present this another way. How is it satisfying to have a thread about this young womans murder? We all feel horrible about it. Or...some of us don't know about it. So what's the point of posting it? Now, if you wanted to post something about the Solo -- Star Wars movie, there IS something satisfying about that. People that loved it can rave about it. Those that hated it, can state why. A fun debate can ensue. But the death, or murder of someone...we all agree, it's sad. So, do we really need 10 pages of posts with some writing "RIP" or "a life took too soon" or whatever version of that they type?

RIP Mollie Tibbetts. Prayers to your family and friends.
