Does anyone remember "Field of Dreams"? In my area (Illinois, Indiana) they were stores usually found in higher - end malls and sold entertainment and sports memorabilia, some signed and some not. I don't know if they still exist or not but my question is whether or not their signed items were real or not. I have a couple rolling stones items that are accompanied with their coa.

I don’t know a lot about them, but i do know there is both good and bad to report about them. Some will say bad things about them, and they probably have a legitimate gripe. However, some of their stuff is definitely authentic. They actually conducted private signings with some celebrities. I think mainly sports stars. I also know they did private signings with Wilt Chamberlain for instance. But it is when you get into items where they didn’t actually have a private signing with the celebrity in question is sometimes where there can be problems, particularly with vintage items. I do know that they have sold fake Babe Ruth items for instance. Whether it was intentional or not I do not know. So I think when they sold items from third-party sources is when problems arose.
I was given a Mark McGwire ball as a gift from there in 1998. It was confirmed here that it is not real. So this is one example of them selling fakes.
And I’m sure it was third-party sourced because Mark McGwire wasn’t doing signings in 1998.
They are still in existence. And they’re not all fakes. They still have signings with sports stars where you can line up and get a star to sign your item right in front of you. So definitely not all fakes. Like I said, Wilt Chamberlain and many others have done signings there.
Thanks James and others for the replies and opinions. As I mentioned, my pieces are signed cds from the Rolling Stones. I'm pretty sure that FOD never had the stones come in to do private signings like they did with the sports celebrities so my items are most likely from third party sources. I will try to get a couple pics posted to let the group comment on the autographs.
The stores are independently owned and quality varied dramatically. I've been to a few over the years, and some had a sports inventory that looked 100% A-OK, and others didn't have any autographs besides private and licensed signings that I liked. The music and entertainment were all troubling to me.
Yeah - they seemed okay in the modern sports department (though pricing was hardly competitive), but the entertainment side of things was incredibly problematic every time I ran across one of their stores. They seemed to be a towering example of a sports autograph dealer who tried dabbling in entertainment autographs with a complete misunderstanding of that section of the hobby and no clue whatsoever as to what they were doing,
