What's a fair price to pay for a signed Mantle ball, bold signature, clean ball?

Authenticated balls on eBay seem to be selling for $450-$800.  Are there better deals to be found?

Thanks, Justin

If you know autographs, you can always find deals; if you don't know autographs, it's a mine field.

+1

A member recently bought a GREAT Mantle ball with a bold autograph for a good price, $400 I think.

Thanks for the info!

Where do you find these balls for sale?  Are they posted on here?

I have seen several on eBay in the $300-$400 range.  If they have a buy it now, they disappear quick.  If you know your stuff, you can pick it up quickly.  If you are skeptical or decide to wait a little, they usually are gone when you come back.

Thanks for the info, Steve.  When you find a ball in that range on eBay, do you typically look for it to be authenticated by a certain company or companies?  Do you stick with only certain sellers on eBay?  I'm afraid if I find a good deal, it will be gone before I can post pictures on here for opinions.

Thanks!

you will pay a premium for a certed ball.  Study his signature, and you will be more likely to be able to find a bargain.

If I were in the market for one, I would not look for a vertex ball unless one popped up with a great price.  Most people who send a ball in for authentication expect a premium on their price.  Those who list without that are most likely to have a much more reasonable price.  Way more people don’t know what to look for in a Mantle signature and either gravitate to a forgery because it is cheap or the opposite direction because someone else is telling them it is good.  If you are able to rely on your own skills, you can have your pickings from everything in between.

I typed certed and it wrote vertex.  Please insert correct word when reading, or assume I am attempting to speak Yiddish.
