Has anyone heard if Barnes & Noble will be doing their annual Black Friday instore Signed Edition promotion? If so, any ideas of what books could potentially show up?

A reminder for folks out there.  We all have want it's and need items.  If it's a need, certainly buy it now.  For items that are more a want than a "gotta have it" - many of the black Friday signed editions go half off the day after Christmas.  So for some books it might be worth the gamble to wait.

I clicked on Portman and searched for in store pickup. There was one available at a store 2 hours away. Placed my order thinking it would be cancelled but just received email stating ready for pickup.  Double check your surrounding area as well for the hard to find ones.

Now I just have to find a way there. My right foot is in a cast recovering from surgery and 2 hours is a long drive with the left foot. Have to convince the wife to take a day trip

Before you make the drive, be sure to call first to verify.  I ordered 6 assorted signed books for in-store pick-up and when I got to the stores, one was a return with the sig page removed and another was a regular, unsigned edition.

I'm sure if you went that far and found out it wasn't as expected-it'd ruin your whole day.

Huge advice! This is what I usually do, reserve online, then honestly 2/3 times it is an unsigned version that they held, and they cancel. Once in a while you get lucky and hit!

Thanks for the tip. I haven't called yet but decided to pass anyways. My wife doesn't want to make the drive which was really the main point, so we can get away for a bit. Looking on eBay I'm a little shocked these have come down to $40ish it would actually save money and time if I bought from someone instead of spending the 4 hours round trip in gas. Last time I checked a few months ago, these were consistantly selling for $80 to $100... resellers are taking over hard.

Wow, the Portman books have really come down.  The first year B&N had them, I sold two for $250 a pop , I literally listed them right there at the store and by the time I got up to the register to pay, both had already sold. Good times LOL

FYI, similar with Books-a-Million as well, who has had some slower selling (& some previous year) signed books at 50% off:

My one B & N regret was missing on a Sly Stone, as he's a legend, but not sure how much of the book I'd believe anyway, haha.

I was hoping Kenan Thompson would be part of this but he's still $30. Would like to add him to my SNL collection but I can wait it out.
