I recently obtained an amazing autograph on hibid dot com from an estate sale auction. I didn't end up paying very much money at all but before I put in what turned out to be my final bid a week ago, I submitted it to SWAU for a quick $10 opinion. SWAU came back with Likely Genuine.

Post-auction, I submitted it to Beckett for an additional opinion. It came back with the dreaded Unlikely to Pass Full Authentication.

SWAU has steered me right numerous times before and Beckett has been nothing but a source of much frustration.

In the opinions of those reading this, do I look for a third opinion or do I trust SWA's word?

"Quick Opinion"?

It took about 10 seconds to find it.

Oh I am not arguing for it, I am just saying that 10 seconds might be more than $10.

Well, then at least include a note with the result stating that it’s suspected to be a printed signature. Then at least the submitter will have an idea about how they reached their conclusion.

I don't see how sharing that information will make them money.

Typically the price is the same—whether it takes 3 seconds or an hour to give the customer what they paid for.

I meant that telling customers why an item failed won't increase submissions and ideally would reduce them, apart from those customers that need the sticker.

They don't tell submitters for authentication why a submission failed.

I know. I'm saying that if they did so, it would not help revenue. Customers might actually learn something...

In a case like this, it might actually help BAS. That’s assuming they believe that it might be a printed signature. It would give the submitter an opportunity to confirm live ink and possibly submit it for full authentication. If they’re simply told “Unlikely to pass…”, they’ll probably assume that it’s a forgery.
