Great purchases you all have there. I would have been tempted but I already had an early sketch that I got from him back before the Simpsons became super popular.
FWIW, here's the sketch. The bulge above Bart's left eye is more pronounced on mine and on the PSA example, but I don't necessarily think that is disqualiying. The formation of his right eye is similar across all the examples - the pen seems to start near the top and go counterclockwise around. (The ear evolved over time).
Thanks so much for sharing. Thats amazing. That date specifically gave me flashbacks and goosebumps as I remember that day in my life so clearly for unrelated reasons.
Wow, Im remembering that whole era. In Chicago, Bart Mania already took hold and I was begging for a t-shirt of Bart saying "Eat my shorts man" which I was never given. Their excuse was because schools started to ban them already haha.. they just didn't want to spend the money on me 😅
You're right though, the Simpsons would go on to become even more popular more than anyone could have imagined. There wasn't social media back then of course so no way of knowing what existed beyond my little bubble aside from TV media and hype in school.
I wish I had an item like yours back then. But so grateful to own one (4) now haha. I don't blame you for not buying one of these. You can't top what you already have.
I believe you are right about authenticity but these days everything has to be researched to be certain.
Here's a video of Matt sketching Bart. Seems a bit slow, must have tried to speed the process up for all of these. Makes a bit of sense to stick with one Character for repetitiveness. Maybe getting it down to 20 - 25 seconds? With breaks, maybe 100 per hour?. Spread it out over a week or 2 whenever he has spare time. Very realistic and worth it for him to hype these box sets... its fun to think about.
Ha nice.. "what?" (Like why is everyone looking at me so close now) nothing personal Bart. Just need to make sure you're real 😄
It looks like the speech bubble is a different pen from the sketch
Lol right…yeah, I noticed that too about the ink for speech bubble. I’m going to take a closer look when I get back home and may add some more photos.
These are great. I got the Yeep! Edition
Mine just arrived. As expected, I got a sketch of Bart. I got the vampire version, with a set of hands reaching out and hypnotizing his victim like Bela Lugosi's Dracula. (Or perhaps he's shuffling like a zombie.)
I love how much variance can be found in these sketches. When it became clear that Matt decided to draw Bart around 500 times, I figured they'd essentially be identical. So it's nice to see so much personality in them. Some have speech bubbles, some have varying facial expressions, some have hands, etc. It's a nice touch.
I can't believe these aren't sold out yet. A part of me wonders if we'll see new characters as more of them sell. Maybe the first 250 copies were Bart, and then he switched to Homer, for example. Maybe next week, a bunch of people will start getting Lisa sketches. I wonder if even once, he got bored and drew a non-Bart character. I doubt it, but it's interesting. I wish I could look at all 500 of them!
Thanks to everyone who posted information on this thread! I'm so happy to have this in my collection!
Oh I like this one. The hands are so simple but they add so much.. Im with you, would love to see them all. It would be fun to see a random "Bender" sketch haha but that would be a stretch. A Homer would be high on my list
Its funny how resellers are listing a lot of these at various pricing while not even sold out yet. I wish some of them would open the box so people can see what they are buying. I'd be tempted to spend a little extra for a Homer to pair with one of my Barts
