Their website is sgccard.com and they say on the site "The Industry's Most Trusted Grading and Authentication Service."
I see a few balls that I like with that SGC coa. I have seen them at some local shows around the cincinnati area, but I was kinda turned off because I was looking at a fake mantle ball on one of the vendors stands. I said Im pretty sure this is a fake mantle ball and the vendor said well that guy over their just certified it. I turned around and it was an SGC stand..
I know there will always be mistakes but I dont see them much and dont see much of their COA's on baseballs; mainly cards.
Any advice?

Every item that I was familiar with and had an SGC sticker on it was authentic in my opinion.
SGC Authentic is being run by Mike Root, formerly of JSA. Larry Studebaker, also formerly of JSA, is also at SGC.

In my experience, SGC has been authenticating tightly and I'd be quite surprised to see them pass any bad Mantle material.
In full disclosure, I am the space and aviation consultant for SGC.

I have checked SGC authenticated items on ebay, and find them to have a very high degree of accuracy with regards to baseball items.
I tried them once at a show. I had a bird, Jordan, johnson dream team signed photo I had for over 15 years. I was just walking by and they talked me into getting it authenticated. Since they actually tried to sell me on using their authentication and the authenticator was holding it in his hands, I figured there would be no problem passing. When they told me the price($100), I almost said no but since they seemed cool and I wanted to try them out (the line at the JSA booth was very long and they estimated a six hour wait- SCG had no line and told me about 30 minutes).
Well, I came back and after I paid the $100 fee, the guy looks me right in the face and says it was no good, not even close. I was pretty pissed since this guy CONVINCED me to get it authenticated through them. You would think for a new customer and an item he said he knew right away was off, he wouldn't have tried so hard to sell me on their services. For that reason, I will never use them again. I get ALL my items I don't get signed in person authenticated, so I spend quite a bit of money on authentication fees every month. I've spent THOUSANDS with JSA. So they missed quite a bit of business with me. Sometimes customer service and common sense is more valuable than a single authentication fee.
Ryan,
Could you post the photo they failed?
Thanks
I purchased this with my dad when I was about 13 years old with my dad at the Colorado Rockies Fan Fest during the All-Star game. It cost me $200 back then. Came with some pre-printed COA typical of that era that means nothing. I always thought it was real. Wasn't going to pay one of the big guys (PSA-JSA) and risk failing there are well.
Thanks, Ryan. Hopefully some members who know the autographs will comment on them.
I just picked up a Mattingly sig slabbed by SGC and it is no doubt authentic. I then Google'd SGC and ended up in this discussion. Ryan you should definitely should not waste that much money on authentication, do your research and make sure it is real BEFORE you buy! I have never spent $1 on authentication. I do not need a sticker or "COA" to know something is real.
Also, I agree with SGC that your magazine is NOT authentic... But yes that does suck they talked you into wasting $100. Once again, why I will never spend $1 on authentication.
