First I will say I absolutely have no idea of his signature. It looks like it was signed in Sharpie. The ball is roached with a pretty dark signature that looks added after? So I wouldn't think so based on that personally.
I'm pretty sure it's fountain pen with to my understanding looks like that.... And the ball was certainly well used before signed but the signature looks good from everything I'm seeing and reading online
My mistake then, yeah I don't know his signature at all. PSA does have a fact page with known examplers I found. Uf you haven't seen it take a look.

I would be very leery of any joe jackson signature, especially one that looks like it was signed yesterday, like this.  Yes, it does look similar but because his signature was drawn by him, it is very easy to forge.

The tang hung that does make me feel very comfortable about this is the person it came from. It's been in his collection for over 40 years, he has a ton of stuff and has owned most of his stuff before these cert companies were around and most were even born lol..... I know fountain pen doesn't really fade either

Fountain pen ink fades like almost any other ink.

Yes if exposed to the elements for sure..... But there are also many other presentations out there that show very little fade...... It's a hard call it seems

Mark,

The most alarming thing about the ball is that the signature is in perfect condition, signed on top of a baseball with highly degraded surfaces. A genuine autograph would be equally degraded, with sections missing, and might not even be visible at all.

As for the autograph itself, in my opinion it has a shape somewhat similar to a genuine Joe Jackson, but it doesn't show the crudeness of a genuine example.

I don't know that fountain pen would come out that bold and even on a ball that rough. I would expect to see some skips and thinner areas. Because Joe was illiterate, he very rarey signed and it was shaky, making forgeries much easier.

I would say a fake.

Hello,

I don't think what is written really comes up to bat here - things just do not age like this. As far as the signature, the person who drew this knows what a "k" is a little too much IMHO. The other thing is the strength and solidity of the ink. Vintage examples signed in fountain pen often have some fade, skipping even in minute areas from texture and signing, some "scratch" to the leather from the steel nib, and of course (especially in this case) some wear. Yet the ink it is nearly solid - reminds me of a sepia fine point Sharpie. The "s" - look at the construction/formation. The "s" is also much too self aware from the exemplars shown - it actually backs up and then heads right over itself again quite sharply for this context, unlike any of the exemplars shown. Others will surely know far more.

Best wishes,

                Eric
