Authenticity is Everything
Albert Einstein Letter ... Authentic??
I just bought this letter at auction at what I believe to be a great price, which makes me nervous. I don't have it in hand yet but would like opinions on its authenticity. It certainly looks like an authentic Einstein signature. Also where would be the best place to go for a certification?

Where did you get it from? I would have some serious reservations, nothing there looks to be 70+ years old.

2 factors that worries me on this piece. The fact that the letter addressed as "Dear Friend" tells me that this was a mass produced letter. And also the signature itself is much larger than the examplars on the heritage auction past auction results. My 2 cents.

Yes, it was a auction of primarily high end furniture.

I don't know what you paid, but you have a facsimile or preprinted signature there from what I can see. And the "Dear Friend"...

I agree it appears to be a stamped signature or autopen, but it is a period letter based on the similar ones I have found. Above are two recent ones, I am surprised by the price considering one auction even stated they were told it was a "rubber stamp".

This photo I posted is from an authentic TLS from the same letterhead typed in 1948. The same year as your letter. Notice the difference on the comma strike from the tpewiter used? I believe most people did not own multiple typewriters back in the day and they used the same typewriter throughout their lifetime. - Attachments: No photo uploads here
