With the 99 at Coles and 900 from S&S (including Premiere?) I guess there were approx 1000 of whatever it is. Seems possible but I get the skepticism. Still, the letter is similar to the ones that accompanied legit S&S signed Nobel from Dylan and the letter did not accompany the one that got out from Indigo as far as we know. I get that they may just be trying to cover their tracks after getting caught but maybe something else going on.

Just playing devils advocate here, but could the person who shared the original video with the alleged signed Indigo copy just faked the copy and/or video? And by coincidence the publishers decided to just sell the books themselves to make more £££ with direct sales? Has the person with the video shown more detailed photos, receipts of sale, spoken more about the copy and are they 100% trustworthy person? It seems most people are adamant the video is totally legit / verified as authentic and that is what has kicked off the debate.

Its a good question. I was a wedding videographer for about 7 years. It was a tremendous amount of time editing video when I wasn't shooting. It would be extremely difficult for an average person to fake this without there being signs. And all that effort for what? This guy did not gain anything from his video.
It's a valid theory and one I spent a lot of time researching for the Indigo sales, but at this point its been debunked
Could there however been a sample copy with a fauxsignature, and somehow he ended up with that copy? I highly doubt it but there still may be a chance

I guess one reason would be to create a bit of a stir in the autograph community. Especially if they are 'in the know' about how sought after a Dylan autograph is. There's a lot of fakery out there! People looking for attention, more plays, more likes etc. Weren't regular copies already out in existence and couldn't they have just added their own made up tipped in page? P.S. I don't work for the publishers!! I'm just trying to see all angles.

My theory changed after researching that video. It could have been a dummy page placed inside the book. That would have took much less effort than flawlessly editing a video.. As far as we know, Indigo did not have these in their inventory aside from this one book which accidentally got released. There are still missing pieces to fill in. If it was an Indigo employee trying to keep them all for himself, these would not have been pulled back from Simon and Schuster. The guy who made the video was located right near an Indigo store.. he had the in-store pickup packaging as well.. Im still questioning that book slightly as being some sort of dummy book or an example but events transpiring since Indigo just don't add up. It comes down to Simon and Schuster still attempting to get rid of those autopened books, or they are doing whatever necessary to save face and make sure these are 100% real in order to sweep their Indigo fraud attempt under the table. Im leaning towards these being real for the moment

My gut feeling was someone carefully ripped out the page from a regular copy, scanned it in, doctored a template Dylan autograph on the scanned copy, edited extra bits about being 'signed', printed out sheet and slipped back in to the book. I think forgery is more likely, than video manipulation. Unless the individual who did the video can be accounted for as legit then that'll sit in the back of my mind until everyone receives the copies. The person who did the video could be a disgruntled employee who has access to all the stuff you need to make it looks legit, receipts, bags, packaging etc. The publishers could have found out and pulled the sales from Indigo Street investigation after being bombarded by emails about autopen. There could be something else entirely going on with this. Indigo could be keeping schtum about the whole thing. Who knows!

I for one never speculate. I always look for absolute proof before moving on to other theories. You are not wrong in that it could be a possibility. Theres absolutely no way to know for sure but it honestly is extremely unlikely. We just don't know if Indigo had any other signed or unsigned copies in stock in that particular store. The signed copies, I assure, would have been shipped from a warehouse. The store may have had some unsigned copies but none with the book cover actually showing $799 CAN and $599US.. It still can't be ruled out that a dummy page was put in and a reproduced book cover was made but id pit the odds of that being the case at 0.001% chance. Yes its possible, but highly unlikely. We now have another chance to see how all of this will play out.. Its been such a fun month to be an autograph collector

Jason H has investigated every angle of this.
There was a thread about this on Facebook that was linked here somewhere. He showed a receipt from Indigo and the book had all marks of authenticity (bound page, unique barcode). It's almost impossible to fake, you don't create a fake like that as a joke on the historical autograph club. The guy wasn't a blogger or anything like that as far as I'm aware.
