We're an eBay affiliate and may be compensated on purchases made through clicks.

We're considering adding an eBay autograph and memorabilia forum, or group, to Autograph Magazine Live! where members can discuss everything from safe buying, to individual buyers and sellers, to discussing particular pieces you're interested in.

Is that something you'd be interested in? If so, what would you like to see in it, would you use it often, and do you have any ideas how you'd like it to work, including rules, etc.

Please tell us your ideas in this forum. We can implement it as early as April 1.

It you're not a member of Autograph Magazine Live! you'll need to join to comment. It's free!

Sounds like there are a lot of good people out there like you Mark who think alike. I hope we can somehow make a difference.
Good idea Steve, always good to for a collector to get a second opinion before buying on ebay

Many thanks, Peter
Ebay makes too much money from the sale of forgeries to really get down and dirty to rid itself of that bad element. Ebay does what I call "selective removal." They'll remove some forgeries from a slob selling 2-4 forgeries, but they won't act on a seller who sells hundreds of forgeries. That's where the money is for Ebay. There are three main reasons why this garbage will never end. One, is that Ebay makes too much money from the sales of forgeries. Two, when it comes to autographs, Ebay buyers are the most ignorant and dumbest in the world. And three, there are more ten times more "bad sellers" than there are sellers of authentic memorabilia. Then there are entities like Coach's Corner that sicken all of us. This month (April 2010) they have over 10 Babe Ruth forgeries up for auction. Stupid buyers are 50% of the problem when it comes to forgeries. They have absolutely no common sense. There is a seller on Ebay who sells tons of Brett Favre fake autograph items. Do you think that one of those buyers asked him "How did you acquire so many Brett Favre autograph pieces?" He has sold 56 Brett Favre forgeries during the past 90 days.
Please travis, I appreciate your passion but to not group Global GAi in that mix of horrible fakes is foolhardy. please add them to you list with Burzyk and Sta.t or you yourself have no credibility
point taken Travis,

I guess my only "vendetta" against GAI is that there are more of them than anything in the baseball E-bay arena and "they are backed by E-bay as 1 of their 3 Authenticators of choice. That's my only point and I think it's a pretty good one, wouldn't you agree? maybe I came of too abrasive or a GAI basher, but I used to love them and thought they did good work. However, none of their "good" stuff is on E-bay anymore, They are all FAKE Mantles. Dimaggio and Williams????I only collect and it just gets me pissed that they are all fake, where did all their real ones go? I am just as sick about the Stat and Burzinski stuff, but they are not an approved authenticator of E-bay, so I think that is noteworthy and if makes me seem that I have a vendetta, well than it is what it is....Totally criminal on the Part of E-Bay for endorsing horse s***. I apologize if I offended you personally.
Here's another fact about Ebay. Ebay says it considers itself an "open forum." But yet they allow "private listings." Ebay says it considers itself an "open forum." But yet if you email a winning bidder and inform they that they've purchased a forgery Ebay can (and has) send you a warning to stop or suspend you. Ebay was proud of itself when it finally got rid of a seller who was selling forged autograph guitars. Of course, Ebay didn't get rid of him until he had already sold $750,000 worth of forged autographed guitars, etc. Makes me sick. There's a ring of sellers on Ebay right now who have sold a ton of Michael Jackson fake autograph items. Geez, I wonder what their "ace" in the hole is?
Hi Travis, I agree with you. It never ceases to amaze me at how aggressive the forgers are and how they defend their positions so intensely. In fact it is one of the warning signs of a forger that they get ugly, threaten and refuse to refund. Real dealers are more than happy and ready to refund people their money. Karen
Travis is absolutely right. Ebay is in no rush to boot those "bad sellers." There is simply too much money to lose from the thousands of sellers selling fraudulent items. Think about this; Ebay, a publicly traded company that profits from the sales of fraudulent items. When people like Travis, myself and others get threatened, then we know we have hit a nerve. Just the other day I exposed two sellers on Ebay for selling forgeries and immediately after seeing their garbage on video, they changed their Ebay IDs.
As a member of Ebay's Enhanced Member Reporting team ( for NASCAR ). I remove sellers quite often. Does ebay like it? NO! Neither do I. However, they will remove them. THANKFULLY, items reported by non-experts are not given the weight of an expert opinion. Ebay does look at every item reported though if need be, they will send those reported items to those of us that they use as their experts to investigate further.
You get a warning because what you are doing is violating ebay poilicy. Is a good policy? I don't think so. However, there are a LOT of collectors that will blindly attack other dealers or collectors with malice. You can be removed for good for making such contacts to buyers and sellers. That's just part of the ebay way I guess.
I'm with Travis on this one, too. Do you think all experts have paper credentials? I know for a fact that Travis is a boxing autograph expert. Just because collectors like Travis and myself don't have a certificate or a title doesn't mean a thing. Chris "I Never saw An Autograph I Didn't Like" Morales owns all kinds of titles and look at the thousands pieces of garbage he's "authenticated." Collectors like Travis, others and myself have studied (and continue to study) autographs for a long time. As for Ebay, if they want to boot me for warning buyers then so be it. I'm sure it makes them feel good to go after the good guys. Do you know why they go after the good guys? Because they fear the bad guys. Ebay fears a lawsuit from the bad guys. What Ebay should really be fearing is a lawsuit by the good guys. Ebay got off easy after "Operation Bullpen." That might not happen next time. I can't count the number of times Ebay has given the title of "Top Rated Seller" to a seller of forgeries. There is a small ring of sellers on Ebay that has sold a ton of Michael Jackson forgeries. Lately, they've been listing a fake Michael Jackson autograph with a "1-Day Listing" and they've been listing them every 24 hours. That seller has their "ace" in the hole. That seller has been given the title of "Top Rated Seller" by Ebay. Shame on Ebay!!!
That's wonderful. A lot of volunteers worked for a long time to dramatically reduce the number of forgeries. eBay stops caring last fall, let's anyone sell pretty much anything, but buyers are more confident than they have been in years due to the volunteers' efforts.

eBay should make sure bidders are aware that it's back to the same old thieves market it used to be.
