From talking with another member about trading autographs, we thought maybe it would be cool to have one place here where we can all post up stuff we have for trade or sale that we could all update our collections by. As long as everyone post up a clear pic of the signatures and a good description, then this could be epic!
Moderator Comments:
This is a great idea! Try it out in this discussion,
and then we'll set up a special forum category
once we work out the kinks.
Authenticity:
Please do your best to make sure your autographs are genuine BEFORE you post them here. Ask for opinions in the appropriate forum here, such as http://live.autographmagazine.com/forum/categories/what-do-you-thin...
If you see something here that's a likely forgery, reply with your opinion and contact the forum moderator.
Thanks...and good luck!

Quick Opinion is $10 for non-eBay auctions.
I think it's best to avoid accusations and confrontations like this unless the person's motives, or deceptive actions, are absolutely clear. We don't want to scare good people away from using Live! who can benefit from it.
Steve, my comment wasn't meant to be confrontational, but this situation was inevitable with this new "Buy, Sell & Trade" thread.
There was a member that showed interest in the bat and I offered an option for Evan to use to give the interested party some piece of mind that it is authentic. Evan wrote that in order to use "Quick Opinion" he had to "register" or "log in." There is no "registration" or "login" to use "Quick Opinion." There is nothing confusing about using "Quick Opinion." If I was selling a Mantle signed bat that I know is 100% authentic, I would go out of my way to pay the $7.49 to make a $1200.00 sale and to give the interested party "piece of mind."
The majority of so-called collectors who purchase autographs on Ebay have this preconceived notion that because an autograph is listed on Ebay that is must be authentic and most of us know that is simply not true. The same goes for here, Steve. Just because a member wants to sell their autographs "here" we cannot assume they will be authentic.
People who put their items up in this thread, have to expect and in fact, welcome scrutiny from qualified members. When it comes to Mantle, I would trust the opinion of two of the individuals here, as much if not more, than that of the TPA's. This recommendation for the "quick opinion" would most likely not even come up, if we all had a better feeling about the signature in question. In fact, I believe we would have been standing in line to buy it for $1200.00. If its legit, its worth more than twice that.
Terrier, I didn't mention "Quick Opinion" for my benefit, but I mentioned it to see what Evan's response would be. If I thought the Mantle signed bat was authentic I wouldn't have written anything under this thread.
Chris, that was kinda my point, although I guess I was long winded about it!
I knew what you meant, Terrier. I can be long-winded myself at times.
Chris,
I agree with you: everything posted for sale here should be looked at as critically as if it's on eBay or CraigsList--and open for discussion. I think it's fine to argue. I'm just concerned about accusations.
Unfortunately in this industry and or hobby...getting burned in my opinion is how an education is built...
Very wise words, CEE GEE.
In 1998, I was burned by a Neil Armstrong fake. It inspired me to study and study as hard as I could. I examined every exemplar I could find. I ended up exposing the dealer who was selling these fakes and it forced him to issue a mass recall. Since then I have written several studies and have opined for many dealers and collectors, often helping them to get a refund. I like to joke that a forger created me, and I have cost them 1,000 times over what they tried to steal from me.
In the more recent past, I discovered I was burned with fake Mantles. I have dedicated myself to studying that signature as well. Now, I feel very comfortable with my opinion on Mantle 90% of the time and I'll do all I can to help other collectors avoid fakes.
Great comment, Mr. Zipper.
