Unfortunately not unique.

One of my favorite documentaries is the "Hitler Diary Hoax."

I guess people/collectors "want to believe" and this is why the forgery industry is growing every year.

The 'Hitler diaries' were not checked properly , and this would have discovered that these were fake.  The newspaper  that was serialisng them 'broke cover' before proper checks had been done because another newspspaer had disocvered their so called scoop and then they couldn't retract.

Yes, exactly Dur Stern or something, They had little relationship to Hitler's writings. I remember holding authentic Riefenstahl portraits signed by Hitler. Long ago. One of my friends found and held Braun's pressed floral keepsakes in a book before they were stolen. Right before the film with Ganz.

Yes it was something like that.  The German magazine didnt have a good reputation for fact checking anyway but the problems intensified when a respected UK newspaper serialised this despite many in the team having serious doubts because they had to win the circulation war at all costs & then they couldnt back down.  A really interesting book has been written about this.  Another reason rhe newspaper couldnt back down was because of the amount of money they had spent advertising/promoting their great scoop.  It was a fortune

That is everything.

The person would be Murdoch.   I remember the Newsweek article about this back in the 1980's, but if you haven't watched the documentary on this, please do.

There were a few people that warned them not to buy and publish them, but they (Murdoch) could not restrain themselves.
