I'm a big fan of Kurt Vonnegut. I have several of his autographs, mostly Easton Press books because I've been nervous buying autographs online. But I had the chance to buy his autograph with a self portrait. See picture. I'm not sure if it's real. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I truly hope this is real.  Unfortunately, I don’t know Mr Vonnegut’s signature well enough to comment on it. Hopefully, others will chime in with knowledge  about Vonnegut’s autograph.

However, might I suggest contacting the family of Thornton Melon.  Apparently, Mr Melon employeed Mr Vonnegut’s services at one time so that Kurt Vonnegut would write a term paper about Kurt Vonnegut for Mr Melon’s college course.  Therefore, Mr Melon or Melon’s family might know a great deal about Mr Vonnegut’s handwriting since the Melon family still retains Mr Vonnegut’s original rough draft of the term paper.

Sadly and ironically, Mr. Melon’s college professor not only did not believe that Mr Melon wrote the paper; she believed that whoever wrote Mr Melon’s term paper for Mr Melon, in fact knew NOTHING about Kurt Vonnegut - such a pity.

(Sorry, I couldn’t resist.  If you’re confused by what I posted above, it’s from the 1986 comedy, “Back to School” starring Rodney Dangerfield as the multi-millionaire Thornton Melon who goes back to college in his late middle years in order to bond with his son who is attending the same college as Mr Melon.  I believe Kurt Vonnegut actually made a cameo appearance in the movie as well.)

Here is my Kurt Vonnegut self portrait with psa dna authentication, for comparison.  There seems to be significant differences, most notably the closing “t”.
